Mercury in 8th - probing mind. digging deep to the core of things. In my case is doubled - mercury (thinking) in 8th (house of scorpio) and pluto (scorpio ruler) in 3rd (house of thinking).

As for venus - other people's money would come easily to you.

I have Mercury in the 8th (also my Sun) I think it makes me interested in occult things.. I like things that are taboo.
Knowing what goes on behind the surface.
When I find something that interests me I can research it for hours!

I love it! Mercury in 8th house means you enjoy researching topics for ages if you're very interested in it.

You can sometimes outwit people with their thinking; or if they are trying to trick you, you'll realise and then ask them why.

However Mercury in 8th house, may mean you're not very good at communicating unless you're in your forte. But this also depends on the aspects leading to Mercury.

Mercury in 8th house is 0.5 of identifying someone's communication skills

Mercury in the 8th house can indicate mental energy focused on 8th house themes, which can be tabu/deep/dark/secret things, what real intimacy means (no 8th house it's not just about raw sex :P), power issues, other people's values and resources, and what's underneath the unconscious and intuition.

Wow - these were some great replies! This sounds exactly like me. My Mercury is supposed to be in the 9th but it's too far at the edge, therefore it is interpreted in the 8th. But I have it in Libra

My bf has 8H Mercury in Virgo. He is not afraid of to discuss the loaded themes of the 8th. I have 3H Mercury in Scorpio, so I sort of understand.
