DualGem, I enjoyed your comment. I used to be good at math. I have Aquarius Mercury square Uranus. In grade school I was in the 99th percentile on standardized tests and scored higher on my math SATs in 7th grade than a lot of my high school friends did in 12th grade. I lapsed a bit in high school because I was lazy, but I got mostly As in math and science. Did well in college science. I don't have much use for it anymore except with astrology. Calculating minor aspects in my head and stuff. Otherwise I've forgotten most of it. IP: Logged |

I should probably check out Khan Academy again. I like Math Antics.I have a little Japanese soroban on my desk here, very pretty, and I meant to learn it, but the teaching on YouTube was very bad, the first time I tried. :-/ I get discouraged seeing just how bad some math teachers are. IP: Logged |

Here are my aspects: Mercury Trine Uranus Mercury Opp Saturn Mercury Square Jupiter Mercury Sextile Pluto this is just a theory of mine without any substance in real life evidence, but I suspect it may be the jupiter square? details may annoy you to the point that going into the components of a formula results desperating... jupiter allows to see the big picture but it is not happy with details. on the other hand the sign of your mercury may tell also part of the story, if you tell me it is in capricorn or gemini or virgo or libra or acuarius I would be surprised...
Hello! Yes, my Mercury is in Libra. I think it may be the Mercury square Jupiter as well. I have a hard time focusing on math. I often daydream when learning it and it's hard for me to grasp mathematical concepts. IP: Logged |

Sun in GeminiMercury: In Gemini In 8th house Square Saturn Pisces Square Uranus Virgo Square Pluto Virgo Focus of the T Conjunct Vertex Sun sign ruler Final depositor Oh, and that SN in third conjunct Ceres and making a kite to Saturn-Venus-Asc probably helps too... I'm no Einstein but I do all right. 98th and 99th percentiles on the standardized stuff. A to A- when I cared enough to do homework. Geometry and programming logic were my best. I once walked into geometry class after missing a week and an entire chapter and took the test on that chapter without even cracking the book. 115%... I got the bonus questions right too. But all that was over half a lifetime ago, which to an 8th houser is like 6 or 7 lifetimes ago...

My Mercury is Rx. I'm very detail oriented. I learn through practice - doing the same thing over and over again - and audio/hearing. IP: Logged |

In Canada, there's a plethora of teachers with arts and humanities backgrounds, but not so much in Math, Science or Engineering. So it gets harder to retain and pass down math skills if there aren't many people that specialize in it. You'll get the one or two people that are a math genius and way above the rest, but as an overall average, the population could improve. For example 7/10 of Canadians can't or do not like to do fractions, simply because we tried to change to metric to quickly and abandon standard. Its nothing compared to Russia, Poland, China or India were the average population is trained to a higher level of proficiency.
My maths skills had nothing to do with location or educational system. I was hopeless at maths in secondary school, my teachers were uninspiring and I did not enjoy learning at school overall. When I was in my early teens my family moved to Italy then to Australia :-) so I did not get much of school education in Europe. Australian education in 80s and 90s was much different than what it is today, and I relate to the point you are making to the extent that the winning combination is the quality of teachers and the understanding of your personal learning mode. I had an amazing biology teacher, Miss Panizzolo :-) she was pure passion, as a result I was the highest ranking biology student in my High School. My maths skills are a product of recognising my learning mode, and this works for any area of study. What I am willing to study is another matter entirely. So linking back to astrology and the natal chart and what I believe: - challenging aspects in your chart are tests, that were designed for you to overcome or to point you to something else - hence for every challenging aspect in your chart there is also a solution right there For instance, if you see Mercury RX in your chart you may want to focus on non-verbal communication such as music, arts, humanistic areas in order to unleash your mind. Perhaps you are meant to be a great musician rather than mathematically conditioned individual. If we trained our kids solely towards maths and physics we would not have any Mozart, Picasso, Dali, Corbusier, Cartier-Bresson, Avedon, Jung, Chaplin, Michael Jackson and so on. I agree with Sir Ken Robinson that the educational systems are missing the point about multiple intelligences and the need for focus on creative thinking. As Einstein said - Logic will get you from A to B. Imagination will take you everywhere. Nova IP: Logged |

Very nice creative aspects, no RX :-) Try your visual aids to learn maths - beautifully written formulas hang on the walls of your room. When you need to remember the formula, just close your eyes and see the room wall, the picture will be right there in your mind. As for the understanding of Maths, its all patterns. You may try to do every exercise from the book on the day's topic, this way your visual recognition transmits info to your brain and the pattern recognition will kick in. Practice makes perfect. It will take about 21 days according to psychocybernetics. But you have to do it every day for 21 days, all you need is half hour of your time. If you want. Worked for me, and I'm a lazy Sag with poor Merc square Uranus, sextile Venus, and trine Saturn ;-) IP: Logged |

Good theory, if anything it has to do with my Saturn over the last several years, not my Mercury. My Mercury is very good in my chart and dominate, its also conjunct my Jupiter and for the exception of Neptune there are no hard-aspects. With that said then it much be my Saturn then that has forced me to improve my math. I've been forced to deal with foolish people so I've had to become more logical. Canada is very similar to Australia so I can make the comparison. Imagine living in Sydney and then suddenly being forced to live in the outback where the people aren't the most informed/enlightened people. Its either you become similar to them or do all you can do to improve yourself. ==================================== Gemini Sun, Capricorn Rising Aries Moon Gemini Mercury Venus Taurus Mars Cancer

I was not good at math a all. But I always got"B" due to my enormous discipline in school. My ex is in Quantum Physic field of course great in math. His aspects: Sun Sag, Moon (Virgo) Somebody mentioned Neptune having play a significant role in Math talent. Well I am not sure it is true. I have Neptune in 1st house very close to asc. I was always bad in math (I only got "B" because I had extremely good memory and enormous discipline in school). My best friend is Math Professor (his neptune is in 1st house and close to asc) . We do share almost the same ascept. But 1st has very mediocre Math knowledge, another one is extremely talented in this department
