Synesthesia (also spelled synęsthesia or synaesthesia) is a neurological phenomenon in which stimulation of one sensory or cognitive pathway leads to automatic, involuntary experiences in a second sensory or cognitive pathway. People who report such experiences are known as synesthetes. (Wikipedia) http://m.livescience.com/169-rare-real-people-feel-taste-hear-color.html https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=vEqmNX8uKlA What astrological placements do you think could contribute to this ? In a French study, it is shown that synesthesia is fairly common among musicians and artists. I was thinking strong water and/or Neptune emphasis in the natal.
So, are you a synesthete ? (Find out here : http://synesthete.org !) And what type of synesthesia do you have (colors/letters, music/taste...) ? Check for your 4H/8H/12H and water placements, maybe also 5H for creativity (perceiving colors), Neptune and maybe Mercury contacts, and your big three (Sun, Moon, AC). Share ! IP: Logged |

Very interesting topic. I feel maybe Neptune on the Moon or Mercury. Neptunian/12th house influence.I have a Pisces Mercury and Neptune in the 12th conjunct ASC Ruler in the 12th. I must say... My brother's laughter reminds me of carrots. I always used to tell him you laugh like a carrot. But the most interesting sensation, that I could never ever describe by any technical terminology prior to reading this, something that I may perhaps liken to synesthesia (or perhaps may very well be it) would be the visual/affective sensation I get when I see a big body of water. I actually see stars and shimmery geometric objects and glitter. I really get high and dizzy for a few seconds. Almost like I'm in a fairytale. My associations however, tend to be rather absurd sometimes (like the carrots thing). Like someone's appearance can stimulate in me a perception of a very strange sound. They are not always pleasant or aesthetical. But I can certainly see why musicians would experience this and how it can be great material for their compositions and pieces. I just read your placement suggestions. I have a 5th house Gemini Moon sq Venus. Sun, Mercury, Venus, and Saturn all conjunct in Pisces in the 1st. Rulers of the 4th (Venus), 8th (Mercury), and 12th (Saturn) all conjunct. And a peregrine Aqua ASC. IP: Logged |

Okay.I associate numbers with colors, letters with colors and hence some letters with numbers as they have the same color. It's strange though, because I don't really see the colors. I see the characters in black, but as soon as I see a number/letter, my mind associates it with the colors, allowing me to perceive like a thin, light layer of color on top of that character... while still seeing correctly the color black. For me, 0 is whitish grey, 1 is bright red, 2 is sunny yellow, 3 is azure blue, 4 is emerald green, 5 is a very pale pastel green, 6 is bordeaux red, 7 is soft violet, 8 is navy blue, 9 is onion pink. It then goes on to 10-19, where the 1 is red too, but slightly darker, as if it was in the shade (as it doesn't change anymore for the next 9 digits, it isn't as important for me). The units stay the same. And I could go on and on with the rest Other forms I have is days of the week and colors, as well as months and colors and smell. Same here, I don't really smell or see the months, but I associate it strongly with whatever color I think of. I just get the very strong feeling of smelling that particular scent, without actually smelling it. The last is music associated with beautiful, glittery displays of mixed colors. That happens for sections of a classical piece, for example. But the colors I get come from the chords that I play on the piano. Each chord has a plain, fixed color. When it's put together with other chords to form music/a piano piece, it's like all the different colors of the main chords put together, like a painting. (Buuut, it's also influenced by the color of the score I'm working on ) ~ ~ Big three : Virgo AC (so Pisces DC), Sun in Libra 2H, Moon in Aquarius 5H Other : Neptune 5H conjunct Moon exact, both opposite Pallas exact Mercury (R1) in Scorpio, Vertex in Pisces Mars (R8) in 4H semi sextile Moon/Neptune exact Jupiter (R4) in 8H square Moon/Neptune exact Venus in 12H conjunct Anti-Vertex H12 wide (5) Psyche #16 in 5H ? I think that's it. IP: Logged |

Cool topic. I took the test and it said that I have a form of synesthesia but didn't say exactly which one(s), I have a 12th house stellium of my Sun, Moon, Mercury and Jupiter, my 5th house is primarily Pisces. My ASC is Libra. Whenever I hear the word "moist" it makes me tingle and I get this nasty, barf taste in my mouth 😖. As I've gotten older I'm more comfortable saying it but it still leaves that bad taste in my mouth, before I hated hearing it because it was in my ears equivalent to nails on a chalk board. I would get chills whenever I heard it. My mom would torment me saying it. I despise the name Lacey for humans, I automatically think of a dog or a furry animal. I hate the name Derek, I can smell and taste wax and bodily fluids whenever I hear it. Broccoli automatically smells like poo and fart whenever I smell it, hahaha. In fact whenever I see broccoli I automatically see brown. 💩 Whenever I hear a guitar I see red and bass black and blue, probably why I love both so much. Music is so beautiful especially lyrics, I see stars and feel as if the words are puncturing my soul, as if the singer knows exactly how I feel and is calling me out on it. The smell of snow automatically makes me feel warm and cuddly, weird I know, and I don't care for snow. I love the smell of gasoline, it just makes me feel really good/content, like your home eating one of your mom's homemade cookies, relaxing, no idea why. I however do not like diesel, ick. The smell of bleach makes me feel really sticky and humid. I think Neptune/12th house would be the cause. Neptune tricks and manipulates the mind, amongst all of its other wonderful qualities. Makes sense, imo anyway. IP: Logged |

Wow, you actually beat me to it. I was gonna make a topic about it, too o.O (I wanna do our synastry now, haha)I did research on it as part of my degree, and this topic is very fascinating. As far as I remember, we have 1 member on LL, who has this wonderful gift. I can remember the name, but I hope he/she will come forward IP: Logged |

Kim Peek (rainman inspiration) and Daniel Tammet. Two very interesting savants. I don't recall their charts. I think Daniel is a cap. OK, but it's test time. Let me see. ......... That's a big no for this fella. I SEE numbers and words, etc. But not colors or shapes. I have a 12th stellium and many ties to that house in my chart. Mercury is one of them in 12 but no... None for me. IP: Logged |

Great, you might actually be one ! I took the test a while ago, so I don't remember well, but I think you just answered the preview questions. You have to register (it's free) with your email to get the real test. Get ready, that one is really long. Thank you IP: Logged |

Wow, it's amazing how color features very strongly in your associations. Maybe it is the 5th house. The 5th house always seems so very vivid to me. Like a vibrant house, and clearly... Influence of the Sun. I have Psyche in the 12th conjunct Neptune. But your description of your experience is very interesting... I think I have more of visual-aural association and visual-affective too. Another weird one is that my kitten's face reminds me of a "nim" sound. It's weird. Her name is Vega but now, because of her face and the aural association that comes with it, I now call her Nim-nim sometimes. Thank you for sharing this. I'll look into it some more and maybe try to keep an awareness of the way in which I experience it. IP: Logged |

Yes I agree. I will post my take on this later. It must be amazing to perceive things in space and taste numbers ! I would like to have those lol. quote: As far as I remember, we have 1 member on LL, who has this wonderful gift. I can remember the name, but I hope he/she will come forward

Aw, maybe you just don't have the color/numbers but you could have something else because of your watery influence ? Like spatial synesthesia, or other things you have but are not aware they are so special ? (: I think you should still try the preview test questions, like Barbie ! I have just heard of Kim Peek, but I know Daniel Tammet. I didn't know they were synesthetes. I'll check their charts. Thank you for the info ! IP: Logged |

I couldn't take the test but I think I might have a weak form. It's not automatic but if I consider each word then I do associate it with a colour which is useful in poetry and painting but the question is whether that's a cultural association or property perceived in the material word. Think if I disengage cultural part of brain can experience a bit of synaesthesia but concepts I experience more naturally. I've moon-neptune conjunct, mercury trine neptune and saturn trine mercury and neptune - maybe the saturn stops it being automatic and it's as much things blocking or not which can explain an ability or absence.Interesting the article says it might be natural to children. Someone I know with venus conjunct neptune and mercury sextile neptune sees coloured musical notes in the air when the sun shines. She's a theory we are told not to look at the sun because it allows us to tap into such realities. I don't know if that is the same thing but it sounds related. She has sun on galactic centre IP: Logged |

You're welcome. Thanks for bringing this subject to our attention here. If I take the test I'll let you know what the final answer is. Edit- Wow you weren't kidding, that was a loooong freakin test. I liked it a lot better though as it was more in-depth and personal. I thought it was cool. According to that test I have: Months->Color Musical Pitch->Color Musical Chords->Color Musical Instruments->Color Taste->Color Smell->Color Personalities->Color Temperature->Color Orgasm->Color Emotion->Color Vision->Sound Sound->Smell Vision->Smell Sound->Touch Sound->Taste Vision->Taste I found it interesting that migraines are also a common factor with synesthesia. I have cyclic vomiting syndrome(CVS for short), have had it all of my life, and it too is believed to be caused migraines or a family history of them. IP: Logged |

OMG I have this theory too! I can look at the sun without it hurting my eyes and I've always felt like the "don't look at the sun" theory is a farce, same with sunglasses, like how could it actually be better for you eyes to see the sun rays through icky plastic, and what about all those millenia before we had sunglasses!! I especially believe this theory because light contains knowledge, our DNA and body are made up of light codes...

Hi ! I didn't know the science bit. I'll make a thread in the spider line later on if you care to join - just because a conspiracy is a good way to burrow into this topic. I was thinking though - why would a man created symbol be visible even if there's a music to the spheres. But maybe she sees sound in a man made way. I suppose it's a shaky link to synaesthesia unless such properties are actually there but we mostly don't see. IP: Logged | |
