Well if we're going to keep bumping this thread, how about I give a reason for it?

A paradox that teases my mind is that some of the same people who talk about the powers of prayer, Law Of Attraction (or at least the importance of having a positive attitude), that we live in a benevolent universe that won't let anything bad happen to the innocent, etc, also seem to be obsessed with global (even cosmic) conspiracies and apocalypses. How does this make sense?

I'm not talking about those who don't believe in a benevolent universe and the power of people to create their own reality, nor am I talking about those who do believe that but don't promote ideas of the end of the world and such. But for those who do, why do they contribute their power into believing in and spreading tales of the apocalypse (be it ebola or some prophecy) and other "Oh no" moments to the rest of humanity?

The best I can come up with is they need a scapegoat for why the world is so bad when they think the universe is so benevolent and the innocent can't suffer. And yet even if this were the case then prayer, LOA, and the like should at least protect one's self if not actually neutralize the threat.

Another alternative that occurs to me is that they do believe in prayer, LOA, etc, but want others to sabotage themselves with fear (thus spreading endless fear--though possibly with the risk of turning a false nightmare into a reality if enough people believe in it) while they themselves can maximize their own inner-power to rise above everyone else...but that then begs the question, are they still innocent? ('Course humanity has an incredible ability to rationalize its self-serving nature, and even evil itself. And it could be they don't actually believe the innocent are protected.)

And bonus question: why do so many dismiss the misfortune and tragedies of others as "karma" act as if their own personal tragedies are unjust with no karma involved at all?

I know what you mean. Some will say somebody's bad luck is karma, but will say that their own bad luck is an unjust fate.

PJ, re: the karma question. Thank you!! I've wondered the same. If it's a friend in a bad way, we call it bad luck. If it's someone we're angry with, or just don't like for whatever reason, it gets chalked up to karma.

A thought that occurs to me is that End of the World draws attention, and then after which many will fall back on the Bible saying no one knows the hour.

Could these hoaxes be a ploy to just get people to reading the Bible? That's so deliciously twisted to me, and more interesting than they're trying to make a buck selling people books and videos on the coming end (or at least trying to get some attention). And people have promoted a "religion of truth" through deceitful means before.
