Anyone here superstitious or have a phobia based on days, dates, objects etc?Paraskevidekatriaphobia is fear of Friday the 13th. Some people won't walk under a ladder, cross the path of a black cat or open an umbrella indoors. Some believe Friday the 13th is an unlucky day and Friday the 13th is here. IP: Logged |

Thirteen is a very fortunate number. I always have good luck on Friday the 13th--maybe because I expect to...or maybe because I get the good luck others throw away on this day. IP: Logged |

No doubt people attract misfortune by expecting it, and they may miss out on opportunities by staying home all day. In the human body, homeostasis is what keeps everything balanced. For example, your body creates free radicals as byproducts of various biochemical processes (not to mention the ones we eat in our food--even oxygen is dangerous to our cells) and your body creates its own antioxidants to balance them. Taking supplements as antioxidants are worthless, because they have to be directly injected into the cell to be effective (but those supplements are good in other ways). The body creates its own as needed. Well, I like to think that homeostasis applies to the Uni-verse as well. Things tend to balance out. So, metaphysically speaking, if an overwhelming percentage of people attract bad luck (their own doing), then it leaves more good luck for the rest of us. I realize it's not science or physics, but it's metaphysics, and I like the idea. It seems to work for me. The Friday the 13th superstition has a few different roots, but probably the main one is the 12 disciples plus Jesus at the Last Supper. IP: Logged |

i also think fri 13th is a good day generally. yesterday i walked under a ladder...the choice was that way or through blackberry brambles! but i understand where that superstition comes from. ladders have a way of falling when you walk under them especially if you knock them in passing thru!a friend of mine once took a mirror out on the street and hammered it to smithereens, a symbolic smashing of his belief in that superstition. and proceeded to have the 7 BEST years of his life! and a pretty good life it was too. No whistling in the house. Check!I'm not superstitious or fearful at all. Why should I be? My Lucky Rabbit's foot and four leaf clovers protect me. Thanks LEXX, I didn't see that thread back in 2007. lalalinda IP: Logged |
