It should be “The planets aligned for me” because you’re not looking at transiting fixed stars to see if some event happens or not. Sure, for example, the transiting fixed star Sirius conjuncting your natal Sun produces a favorable lucky event but not as much as, for example, transiting planet Jupiter conjunct your natal Sun. Where did ”The stars aligned” even come from?! Obviously not an astrology buff!

When astrology was first invented, it was unlikely that other planets were even known, just that some stars wandered regularly while others seem to stay in place (changing only with the seasons as the planet tilted). Just an old saying. I'm sure most realize it's an expression.

Then again, the zodiac is also important, including what planets they're in, and "the stars are right" then counts anyway despite the involvement of a planet. Though even that gets complicated. Well, in some cases it does, but even when I was a lot more into astrology, I wouldn't take one seriously who thought they knew you because of one placement, or worse, just your sun sign.

Not sure how those who adopted the Lovecraftian mythos used "stars are right." I don't think it was that popular until like the 1980s, and most astrologers probably didn't pay it any mind. It may not have had any significant expression on how others "thank/curse" astrology/Fate.

Those from older times like Shakespeare would. But even today people use "star-crossed lovers" as an expression about tragic circumstances or bad luck rather than a statement of astrology.
