Iceland's economy freezes out McDonald's The country's three restaurants will close next weekend. Posted by Elizabeth Strott on Tuesday, October 27, 2009 8:43 AM Icelanders will be saying "vertu blessašur" to any future cravings for a Big Mac or Chicken McNuggets. http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/Investing/Dispatch/default.aspx?feat=1337596>1=33002 i'd be willing to bet the icelanders so deprived will see an improvement in their health in the near future...! The three McDonald's (MCD) restaurants in Iceland will close at midnight on Oct. 31 because of surging costs as a result of the country's economic collapse over the past year. All three stores are in the country's capital, Reykjavik. "We would have to raise our prices by 20% to get the margin needed on our products," Magnus Ogmundsson, managing director of Lyst Hr., McDonald's franchise holder in Iceland, told Bloomberg News. "That would have sent a Big Mac to 780 kronur" ($6.36), he said. Bing: Iceland's economic collapse Of the 120 countries that produce the McDonald's Big Mac sandwich, Switzerland and Norway currently sell the most expensive ones, at about $5.75, according to the Economist 2009 BigMac index. The cheapest are sold in South Africa, at $1.68, and China, at $1.83. IP: Logged |

That's your personal opinion katatonic and just more of your anti-business nonsense. It's one thing if potential customers reject a business model but some of the Food Nazis believe it should all be left up to them. The doofuses in the Food Nazi and Pleasure Police movement don't seem to understand they've worn out their welcome in the United States. IP: Logged |

the doofus was because you implied i would think it cool that iceland is struggling - unlike the rest of us!...sorry you don't find my humour funny jwhop.but what are you talking about the food nazis and pleasure police for? is a big mac your idea of a great meal out? they were crap at 19c and they are crap at however many dollars you can get for them now. i'm not telling anyone what to eat, just observing that before macdonalds we had...hamburgers! nothing to do with business, though i do find it sad that today's idea of business and value seems tantamount to selling ice to eskimos and coal to newcastle...never mind the quality, its the dollars that count, right? personal opinion, sure. so what? i'm entitled to one, and it is based on experience of eating at macdonalds...twice in 40 years, at least! my vision of a man of taste is eroding...quickly!!
