Republicans know that the health care reform process could be derailed if the Senate decides to adopt any changes in reconciling the bill passed by the House on Sunday.

So, GOP Senators have introduced a variety of provocative -- and occasionally outrageous amendments -- that Democrats who support the health care bill will be forced to vote against in order to get the reconciliation bill through.

A total of 32 amendments have been filed -- all by Republicans -- here are the 10 most outrageous:

Um, how is this ridiculous?

quote:
"To require all Members of Congress to read a bill prior to casting on a vote on the bill."

Proposed by Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) Amendment #3566

Was there any reason given why this is so ridiculous, or is it simply because it was pushed by a Republican?

Because it is in the job description for members of congress.

It could be filed within the dept of redundancy dept though.

But many Congresscritters have admitted to not reading the bills they pass, both Democrats & Republicans.

Even the USA Patriot Act was read by only a small minority (and of that small minority we only have their claim they did).

With an amendment like this politicians could stop using it as an excuse for why they voted for it and take full responsibility for their votes (whether they read or not because they either have to claim they did or admit to breaking a law).

"But many Congresscritters have admitted to not reading the bills they pass"

======================================
I am not surprised, and to admit it publicly is even worse.
I did not know about admission[s] to non-reading of the 1st patriot act.
That does surprise me. Even in the heat of the times... that was sweeping and important, re: civil liberties.

I can hear the subcommittee hearings now...

I had no knowledge
[repeat 20 times]
I do not recollect ever having the knowledge
[repeat 20 times]

this was the same Senator that asked for the reading of the HC document on the floor, in Dec. Which was definitely a delay tactic,
Still think it is ridiculous though.

*This is also the senator from OK that inserted the carry firearms on National Park Land into the Credit reform bill

No Viagra For Pedophiles

Ahhhh, you believe Viagra should be given to Pedophiles?

Cutting Off ACORN

Ahhh, you believe an organization which attempted to overthrow the election process and is involved in massive fraud...as well as violating the terms of their non profit exemption...should be funded by the US government?

Revoke Powers Of Health Secretary

Ahhh, you don't think the unprecedented and unconstitutional power given to a cabinet member should be reined in?

Hire One, Fire One

Ahhh, you believe the power, size and scope of the federal government should be increased? Whatever could have happened to O'Bomber's assertion he was going to reduce federal deficits? Ever heard of PayGo?

"To repeal the government takeover of health care."

Ahhh, when the federal government proposes to tell insurers who they must insure and how much they can charge and tell Americans they MUST purchase insurance from one of the feds "APPROVED PLANS and tell doctors who they can medically treat and how they must be medically treated...then, they have taken over health care.

White House, Congress Needs To Take Its Own Medicine

Ahhh, the plan devised by the kooky Congress and White House is good enough for the citizens...but it sure as hell isn't good enough for the kooksters.

Re-Address Gay Marriage Laws In D.C.

Ahhh, well this has little to do with health care but as a general principle, voters in DC should have had an opportunity to vote this up or down....instead of a little rabid clique of insiders deciding the issue.

Let Americans Keep Their Plan (If They Like It)

Ahhh, why not put O'Bomber's promise into legislation..unless O'Bomber was lying. Of course, O'Bomber was lying and only those plans which meet with O'Bomber's approval will be able to be kept...and only then if there are absolutely no changes to the plans Americans have and like. Can't change the premiums and can't change the coverages.

"To repeal the new $375 million program directing the very same Federal Government that has amassed a $12 trillion debt to lecture Americans about financial responsibility."

Ahhh, it is extreme hypocrisy for the most fiscally extreme and out of control Congress and White House in US history to lecture Americans about fiscal responsibility.

"To require all Members of Congress to read a bill prior to casting on a vote on the bill."

Ahhh, the extremism and radicalism of Republicans to attempt to require congressional members to actually read the bills they vote upon. Wow, who knew?

Nancy Pee-Lousy

We must pass the bill before we can find out what's in it.

Of course, this is the kind of Loony-Tunes leftist extremism we have come to expect from the Huffington Post...that they would object to common sense amendments to a major legislative act.

Ummm, does the doctor know he's dispensing Viagra to a Pedophile?

Do you think the Pedophile tells the doctor he needs a Viagra prescription so he can go out and rape a child?

I forget where, but prisoners were getting Viagra at taxpayer expense. That's not something I want to think about too hard, but even just knowing that much I can see why someone would try to put this in.

And overall, if these were the most ridiculous, then I imagine what they didn't share was quite reasonable, as IMO so were many of the "most ridiculous."

ummm....if he doesn't know the patient is a paedophile the bill is useless anyway. but present the clause again when it isn't threatening the whole bill and it just might get passed.

Apparently the people at Puffington Post, demoscats in Congress and Node believe it's a good idea to give Viagra to Pedophiles...since they all reject an amendment to prohibit the practice.

I have it on good authority that Sarah Palin isn't talking to you katatonic.

Therefore, I will expect you to make good on your promise and support me with campaign contributions and your vote when I launch my campaign for President.

dear bonehead

if she thought i had a few million and a tv camera she would talk to me quicker than you can say licketysplit

the amendment was suggested purely to stall the passage of the healthcare bill and you know it. no one, not even sean hannity and rush limbaugh, would endorse giving viagra to paedophiles, who supposedly have no need of it anyway since their main excuse is they "cant help themselves". i am beginning to think you are also incapable of helping yourself, [and i'm not talking about paedophilia] so spare yourself coming up with any more ludicrous arguments that the failure of that amendment had anything to do with its double negative type content!

The purpose of a finished piece of legislation is to clearly state the intentions of the drafters of the legislation.

If these bonehead legislators didn't intend for Viagra to be given to Pedophiles....then the bill should have had an prohibition against the practice.

As it stands, there is nothing to prevent Pedophiles and others convicted of sex crimes from receiving Viagra under O'BomberCare....at taxpayer expense.

Gee, how stupid can these bonehead moronic Socialist Progressive congressional members be? They only had a year to work out all the kinks from this legislation before final passage.

They had time to bribe House Members. They had time to bribe Senators. They had time to bribe unions. They had time to bribe AARP. They had time to bribe the AMA. They had time to bribe big Pharma. They had time to meet out of view of the public behind closed doors without any Republican legislators present...but, they didn't have time to read their own bill(s).

If there were only 144 of these idiots we could call it gross stupidity. As it is, we must call it colossal stupidity.

Sarah Palin...beautiful, intelligent, articulate, effective and rich. No wonder leftists despise Palin. She's everything they are not.

Are you sure about that acoustic?

Prisoners have "free health care" and Viagra is considered a beneficial prescription that is covered under most health care plans.

In fact, the ACLU sued when a sex change operation was denied a state prisoner in Wisconsin.

Imagine how upset the ACLU would be if a state or federal prison denied a prisoner...including Pedophiles a prescription for Viagra.

"MOST" Pedophiles, rapists and other sex offenders are not in jail. They're cruising the streets of America looking for their next victim.

CRS: Health Law May Allow Viagra Coverage for Sex Offenders
By John Stanton
Roll Call Staff
April 7, 2010, 12:42 p.m.

The Congressional Research Service confirmed in a memo Wednesday that rapists and sex offenders may get federally subsidized Viagra and other sexual performance enhancing drugs under the recently passed health care reform law — information that Republicans charge will haunt Democrats in upcoming elections.

Hello Pid/BearsArcher, I hesitate to call you BA What do you think?

Happy for you and Bear that you're back home in the USA.

Yes, it's sick to the nth degree...considering these "Socialist Progressive Clowns" had most of a year to address every issue and consequence, failed to do so and even rejected an amendment to deny sex enhancing drugs to sexual deviants and offenders.

However, it's no surprise to me that those at Huffington Post and some here think the proposed amendment to forbid the dispensing of Viagra and other similar drugs to Pedophiles and other sexual predators was..."Ridiculous".
