It looks like Genetically modified foods are hard to get away from.

GMO is found in lots of corn, soy, cotton and sugar products....and some animals which are fed corn.

It's surprising where GMO shows up at the supermarket in products we buy.

yes isn't it nice of them to flood the market before proper testing is in. the experiments the russians did with rats are alarming to say the least...and i know people are not rats but the effect was supposed to be just on INSECTS, not mammals and the implication is that we won't know for a couple of generations if this carries through to humans and other animals.

though many like to think of rodents as "vermin" and expendable, they do a powerful lot of good for the environment and doing away with them through reproductive death would be a VERY BAAAD THING. and insects also provide invaluable services!

lobby your supermarket and do it yesterday!! we need a lot more tests before this stuff COMPLETELY takes over the market.

wholefoods promise never to sell GMOs but one has to wonder if they really know for sure about every single product...companies not being known for "transparency" when it might compromise profit..

Well, I've never trusted labels...and I'm especially skeptical of the "organic" labels.

It's sooo easy to slap an "organic" label on food and then double the price.

Besides which, far too much of the produce comes from south of our border and there's no way the "organic" label means a damned thing on that produce.

fortunately where i live farmer's markets are rampant and very affordable organic produce is available. though i tend to think it is a "relative" label, since the water being used can be subject to chemical cleanup or worse, chemical NON cleanup...still we can only do our best.

tomatoes are having a hard time round here due to the late rains...

but wholefoods, and i ask all the time, swear by their growers and insist they WILL not sell GMO foods...

and add canola to that list, by the way.

when my daughter was small i had a panic attack about what i could feed her...it took me a few weeks to realize there is only so much we can do, and besides vigilance and lobbying the providers, we are essentially in the position of adapting/mutating or becoming extinct just like the other species...survival of the fittest still applies?
