Investigative reporting is finding new reasons for the hyped up immigration laws. From Senator Lyndsay Graham talking about the 14Th amendment and immigrants coming here to "drop babies" to the -so not news- angle that conservatives have tried and are actively trying to decrease the minority vote. Which is just silly if you look at the numbers and the trends this is a cork that will never fit.Prison companies could profit from AZ immigration laws. Prisoners are big business. Huge private companies like Wackenhut and the Corrections Corporation of America (CCA) are building and operating whole prisons and jails on a for-profit basis. The private prison industry is booming, despite high-profile escapes, violence, riots, and a government report that found no evidence that private prisons actually save taxpayers money. CCA, for example, paid out nearly $2.5 million to settle a class-action lawsuit brought when at least 20 prisoners were stabbed in one year at its Youngstown, Ohio, facility. In Tennessee, CCA routinely transferred prisoners with HIV to state-run prisons so company shareholders wouldn't have to foot the bill for HIV. Arizona tried to put the entire system under private control. and AZ reporter Morgan Loew was a guest on this video that sets a good case for the corruption in the AZ government, and for profit prisons. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp/38685023#38685023 IP: Logged |

so not news- angle that conservatives have tried and are actively trying to decrease the minority vote...NodeReally Node? And excactly how are "conservatives" trying to decrease the minority vote? Perhaps by refusing to let illegal aliens vote on US elections? It's no secret that President Birdbrain wants to grant amnesty to about 20 million illegal aliens thinking they're demoscat voters. But Node, how are conservatives trying to decrease the minority vote? The only people I've seen trying to keep people from voting..or make them vote "their way" are these: http://www.politicalbyline.com/2008/11/04/new-black-panther-party-intimidating-voters-in-pennsylvania/ http://www.whitleycountypatriots.org/2010/07/10/president-of-new-black-panther-party-admits-to-plan-to-intimidate-voters/ IP: Logged |

I'm with jwhop on his question. How exactly are Republican's trying to stop or decrease the minority vote by throwing out ILLEGAL aliens from this country or trying to ILLEGAL immigrants from using our country to have anchor babies?I love down in SE Arizona (about 10 miles from the border) and I can tell you that the cost to house illegals in jail is WAY less expensive that the cost to feed, provide healthcare and educate illegals and their children. We only have ONE hospital in a 5000 mile county that can deliver babies because anchor babies killed the other three (illegals don't pay and the feds don't seem to want to reimburse for the costs to the state / county). I would rather see the private prisons receive the money (which then supports prison guards, civilian workers and the economy) over that money going to illegals so they can send it back to Mexico. Oh..and I should add- I am a minority and have never been discouraged to vote. I am also a Republican and the only state that ever failed to let me register (read- they never submitted my voter registration application) was Oregon after the DMV lady looked at it and asked me twice if I really wanted to list myself as Republican. Did you notice Pid that Maddow made a lot of accusations about the personnel at that prison...ignored the sirens...ignored the video...ignored the car parked next to the fence? How could anyone but a first hand witness know any of that?Did you also see the picture Maddow put up for her rant? She put up a picture of Governor Brewer...as though she was somehow connected to the escape of the prisoners. But, Brewer didn't sentence those escapees to a minimum security prison. Brewer doesn't run that private prison and in fact, Brewer had nothing to do with it. Maddow is in the same boat with Olbermann, Mathews, Cooper and the other faux journalists who are in reality the propaganda arm and political activists for the demoscat party. Governor Brewer is on their current hit list because she pushed for and signed into law the bill to check the immigration status of those who are being questioned for another crime or infreaction...when the police officer has sufficient reason to believe the offender may not be a citizen of the US.
