Crops not veggies. I just don`t like the lead in misleading folks to think simply growing veggies was a finable crime! .US farmer fined $5K for growing too many vegetables From: NewsCore September 14, 2010 9:49AM AN AMERICAN farmer was facing up to $5000 in fines after officials cited him for growing too many vegetables on his property. According to WSB-TV in Atlanta, DeKalb County officials claim Steve Miller violated local zoning laws by growing too many crops on his land. Mr Miller, of Clarkston, Georgia, said he has had his two-acre piece of property rezoned and vowed to fight the allegations, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. County officials began ticketing Mr Miller last year for the alleged violations and for having “unpermitted employees” on his property, the report said. The farmer told the station he has spent the last 15 years growing crops that he puts up for sale at local markets. http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/world/us-farmer-fined-5k-for-growing-too-many-vegetables/story-e6frev00-1225922107684 "It's a way of life, like it's something in my blood,” Mr Miller told WSB. ------------------ What we do for ourselves dies with us. yes i guess i was in too much of a hurry. thank you for the corrections...a zoning problem which has apparently been solved and now he is allowed to do what he was doing all along. i wonder about those "unpermitted" workers...was he also using undocumented immigrants, or just paying people under the table? Not thread specific... I am reminded of a really good piece of video of an Canadian farmer, a really articulate and informed farmer who has a bone to pick with corporations- specifically Monsanto. it brings to light the ramifications of the ruling earlier this year allowing corporations in this country even more latitude to the point of personhood. anyhow I think both you and juni might appreciate what this guy has to say so tacking it on to this thread you might know of him already. GMO Monsanto vs Percy Schmeiser once you introduce a GMO the GMO is the dominate gene....

i am also challenged on the video front but will attempt it later at a better site...is this the guy who monsanto sued because his crops were contaminated by their GMO carp?? and i don't mean the fish, though it is all VERY fishy! another peachy monsanto incident, the state of california ruled that they needed to hold off on planting GMO sugar beets until a reasonable safety study was done...despite said ruling monsanto just went ahead and planted the little buggers! i hope gerry brown is on this one, in fact i may have to write to him, not my favourite pastime writing to politicians... somewhat convoluted, though intrinsic and natural to my mind was the fact that I am more interested in Percy's findings about GE or GMO seed and foodstuffs than the legal bruha- So much so that I had to research the Monsanto side to the tale Go figure. I do know that they responded on their website at the time, though this case was years ago and a quickie drive by showed they still address concerns about what they do world wide. Their nod is somewhat defensive, or at least it reads that way to me, granted I skimmed and I already think they are satan's spawn so there is no hope nor even a possibility of redemption on their part if you understand. Percy has his own website like all good David's waging against a Goliath.
It is unfortunate that you can't hear him though i totally understand the dial up. My dial-up story from last year [is that] when I contacted my ISP to disengage they dropped my price immediately. While I am on the phone with them I quickly check current prices and saw that they were offering me the new subscriber price. When I laughed and told the rep that she said how does $5 a month sound?? I am serious here. I laughed harder, stifled it to not be rude and said thanks but no thanks. She then offers a maintenance rate, so I can conveniently stay in touch with anyone not on my "update" list if you understand. Oh it was hilarious. So, composedly I say to her "If I say No again is it now free?" Currently my rate will not go up for the near and I got a really sweet deal on the broadband. I am renting the box though which is 5 a month. Currently looking into Clear Wireless Which is a huge turnaround for me, I am loath to go the wireless route [security] It is the way to go though for versatility. And sounding like a commercial here it really is limiting to not have all forms of media available. Stream from anywhere in the world... + make webcam phone calls, music vids is what I do the most though. And politicians. If I can stay around $20-25 I will keep doing the broadband. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monsanto_Canada_Inc._v._Schmeiser http://www.percyschmeiser.com/ IP: Logged |

so he is no organic hero! but it's still a tricky question...if the wind can plant their stuff anywhere how can they patent it? i do get that their plan is to make EVERYONE pay licensing fees to them whether we want their stupid seeds or not!!and as a musician whose copyrights have been violated multitudinous times, i still have a problem with fining and jailing people who download for their own personal use, or even broadcast my stuff without permission...no publicity is bad publicity, right? in the 60s and 70s there were artists whose kudos increased with every bootleg that went out. no they didn't get their cut but they got more heads in the door at concerts and more of their own productions sold in the stores... what irks me about monsanto is the bully tactics and the complete defiance of any type of research that would actually certify their stuff as safe for the human race...there are a lot of very paranoid fantasies out there but also some interesting studies on shorter-generation mammals that indicate GE foods may not be. i would like to know my grandson will grow old AND be able to have kids, and NOT have hair growing out of his mouth in some future scenario...just because his mother can't afford organic everything. at least half the population canNOT. and the whole GE salmon thing makes you wonder when they will have GE people, doesn't it? as to the guy in georgia even if he were turning a profit it would suffice to tax him on it, wouldn't it? instead of all these ludicrous zoning minutiae telling private citizens what they can and can't do with their own backyard?IP: Logged |
