Hey Knowflakes ... this is fatinkerbell reporting from Korea. All is quiet here in the middle of nowhere, rural South Korea ... which is where I am. However the news is abuzz with reports of Tuesday's exchange of fire out near the 38th parallell. Although only two people have lost their lives those who were on the island are a little freaked out. Usually North Korea is like a pink elephant in the room ... everyone ignores it until it c r a p s all over the carpet. I personally am not worried, but that might be a side effect of my medication. (No kidding, I'm on Prozac!) So how's the news being reported out there?------------------ be who you are and say what you feel cos those who matter don't mind and those that mind don't matter! Not pathetic at all... I'm TOTALLY news averse and if it wasn't for the fact that I've been doing an English lesson with my adult students about another incident which happened early in the year I wouldn't have really cottoned onto it much. What's weird to me though is that there seems to be a weird sort of lethargy here ... Yesterday I spoke to my adult students about it and they were like, ja, whatever ... However when I pressed them a bit more you could see that it actually bothers them a lot that actually their fellow countrymen of only a few decades ago are like locked out of sight behind one of the last remaining iron curtains on earth.------------------ be who you are and say what you feel cos those who matter don't mind and those that mind don't matter! Anyone know what the deal is with this astrologically speaking? Any particular transits and what this means in the long run? IP: Logged |

Don't worry but thanks for worrying ... this is pretty much further north from where I am and I'm in more danger daily from my kindergarten kids unscrewing my head than I am of being hit by a missile or artillary ... It will be interesting I'm sure to look at a chart for the moment when the two Korea's were "born". I'll see if I can that info...------------------ be who you are and say what you feel cos those who matter don't mind and those that mind don't matter! IP: Logged |

Here are some dates for the Korean war in this link: http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/ops/korea.htm I'm not sure whether the 'two' Korea's should be dated from the end of World War 2, when North Korea became Soviet and South Korea allied with the USA, or from the armistice of 1953 ...------------------ be who you are and say what you feel cos those who matter don't mind and those that mind don't matter! Stay safe tinker, I can`t wrap my head around what`s the truth either. Every time I hear a report, it changes. It leaves a nasty feel in my gut and I pray a globaly enforced ( real or not) solution isn`t necessary. ------------------ What we do for ourselves dies with us. Hey dudes, another day at work and so far so good. I watched the video I posted ... it's random one I found ... I'm trying to research the Korean War of the fifties some more, but whatching the link above about life in North Korea I can venture the suggestion that basically half of what's freaky about North Korea is also freaky about South Korea. A culture that goes further back than world war two is basically very agrarian, almost feudal, with unquestioning obedience to and respect for authority. Straight talking is not really possible (I've tried). You have to sort of go with the flow. The problem is if the flow is in the wrong direction it's a little complicated because open opposition just gets you kinda banished so you have to play the game. Individual freedom I think is just as much of a problem in South Korea as it is in North Korea. Anyway I know part of the tension comes from what President Lee said way back when a South Korean ship was torpedoed out of the blue ... It was very mysterious at the time and still is because North Korea did NOT claim responsibility for that, as I think they might have wanted to do if they were really into getting into conflict. There are loads of conspiracy theories out there but I can't say what sparked that except it seems kind of random. Anyway Pres Lee replied to that situation in a very gruff and threatening manner but I think it was only words and there's no intention to add bite to the bark ... It was the kind of thing the people wanted to hear. Korea relies a lot on the USA for guidance I reckon ... I get the feeling it's rather North Korea that would like to be united with South Korea and South Korea is more reluctant to take on the burden. The incident was sparked by South Korea doing milititary exercizes in the sea close to the border and North Korea interpreted that as an attack, so they say, and they shelled the island in retaliation. However I think North Korea is literally to weak to do anything much.------------------ be who you are and say what you feel cos those who matter don't mind and those that mind don't matter! What I find immediatly interesting about South Korea's chart is it's Gemini Ascendent ... the two Koreas are a lot like twins. Speaking of which last year in the middle school where I was teaching there were about half a dozen sets of twins! In a school of 300 students that seemed rather unusual. Anyway, looks like North Koriea is Scorpio sun ... mmmmm ... South Korea and me seem to have a lot of good connections, which is just as well cas I kinda want to stay here ... on the one hand there are many immensely frustrating things about this country but I guess the pop music and plethora of horror movies will keep me. I can't believe how many Korean horror movies are on YouTube. However if you've seen one longblackhaired ghost girl in a white shift lurching around you've seen 'em all ... It's amazing how that image is so all pervading. And in fact a curtain of long hair is very easy to hide behind as I've discovered in the classroom many times. Anyway I guess the real question is whther North Korea is nuclear warfare potential ... it seems they're boasting of it but many are skeptical as to how real that threat is.------------------ be who you are and say what you feel cos those who matter don't mind and those that mind don't matter!
