Awesome stuff eh jwhop Abs, you are not part of the liberal elite. You think things through and see both sides like I do. While we may not agree on many things, we also agree that the other is not devoid of intellect, we just see things in a different light. I equate the liberal elite with the insane far right. :P

I don't feel concerned, liberal is not a french concept. there isn't a clivage between conservative and liberals here. it's an american political concept. having said, and from my continental european point of view, I see U.S. concervatives as people who resigned to think things through to security. I don't blame them, the world is made to appear threatening and, like the cosy feeling we seek when we get inside a warm house in a very chilly winter, I see U.S. conservatives cherishing the warmth of a simplified world as opposed to a complex one where we need to reevaluate everydays our assumptions. luckily, they are looking for this gentle warmth in the middle of the cold winter, looking for a cosy feeling, so they are aware of the limit when too much heat is not comfy anymore. the heat and warmth are respectively equivalent to self-interest and simplifications. they may have personal reasons to prefer simplifications over permanent re-evaluation of their views. I like to live dangerously, so I am interested in a philosophy that will bring new perceptions to me that comes from the fact that when I studied political science, I realised how screwed is the governing elite. if they want to stop the hunger, they can, it is not just words. it is possible. but they are not looking for that. liberal and consservatives for that matter. so if I still identify with a "liberal" approach, although as I said this concept has no equivalent in europe, it is only US, so I can hardly identify as liberal, especially being a marxist, well, as I said, I prefer to live (philosophically) dangerously and challenge my assumptions, something a conservative, by definition, never do. and yes, before any conservative here asks me, I also challenge my marxist views. consider my considerate analysis of the motivation of conservatists above, the cozy warmth of a house in the middle of a cold winter, and try to feel the same for my marxist approach. that is what I call re-evaluting my assumptions, and that is why I think conservatives prefer to avoid it and live in simplifications IP: Logged |

Pire, The truth is always simple. Complication arises out of lies and the attempt to cover up those lies. Big government has never worked. I lived overseas and worked overseas and what I have witnessed is something I wish to never happen here in the US. My husband has lived longer overseas that I could ever imagine (2 years in Korea, 4 years Italy and 6 years in Germany). I respect the culture, but I also know what America was built on- we don't need the government interfering with what we do. I don't need the gov to tell me what I should believe in or taking from me to give to someone else (other than fair taxes) however, we have liberals fighting to give more people free money that they do not deserve. I once had a friend from India that said "How is it your country gives so much to people that do nothing? IF they keep giving them money for nothing what will make them work?" He was right. People need to work for a living and those that are on hard times need help but why is it this country seems to think that we need to help those that will not help themselves? IP: Logged |

Ya know though? I think probably the majority of people in America are just like you said Bears. Most people are not black and white like we're painted to be by the large corp. media. Ya know whom really is the liberal elite? Congress...yes, even the conservative ones IP: Logged |
