The ultra conservative / the hypocrite leftist what about the people in between I think I have values but i'm so torn between the two ..I lean more liberal I can't help it.. stem cell research , gay rights, anti Zionist , but I believe in the right to defend yourself and collect as much as you'd like , Pro choice but anti partial birth .. Do you feel stuck or do you believe the parties totally represent you and your values as an individual?

The middle ground that can embrace values in both parties would be an Independent voter

i think most people are straddling the dividing line...which is making our 2 party system more and more anachronistic as we go forward. perhaps it is time to let people vote on ISSUES instead of for people who embody SOME of their preferences and not others?

or time to abolish parties altogether and let each man stand up for himself and his ideas of governing...which would help end the impasses of partisanship we have been seeing for years now...

but the founding fathers tried to create a government which had built=in "leaders", rather than give a one-man-one-vote system a go. many other countries have frequent referenda. somehow that is considered "unamerican", beats me!

Registered Independent (formerly Green that's how I started out, then Democrat, about 12 yrs ago) and now leaning toward Republican a bit more.

I guess I've been through some changes, my life certainly has.

Definitely voting for Republican president come 2012, but thinking, does it really matter whose face is in there since they'll be fed the same BS.

But I may just remain Independent with right and left leaning values.

Hi Sara

I think it is a little nutz to define yourself solely with one party, and to vote along party lines.

When asked to define myself as one or the other I balked, happily treading that no mans land of independent.
