In the spirit of political discourse, we need to fight with vocabulary. Whenever either party wanted to change something, they renamed it, so we may have to do the same. Start by renaming Environmental Regulation to Pollution Control Regulation for starters. Maybe having a congressman say "I'm for repealing Pollution Control," would make it ring as hollow as it should be. quote: The headlines have not been dramatic, and the individual attacks on relatively obscure rules seldom generate much attention beyond those who are most intently focused on environmental regulation. But taken together, the separate moves -- led by House Republicans -- add up to a stunning campaign against governmental regulatory authority that is now surprisingly close to succeeding. In just the year since the GOP took control of the House, there have been at least 159 votes held against environmental protections -- including 83 targeting the Environmental Protection Agency -- on the House floor alone, according to a list compiled by Democrats on the House Energy and Commerce Committee.

The EPA has less to do with protecting the environment and more to do with pushing the control agendas of the green movement, which ultimately is profit-driven. They have way too much power and need to be put in check.------------------ "Fall down 100 times, get up 101...this is success." --ME IP: Logged |

O'Bomber's use of the EPA to implement his "Cap and Trade" legislation, bypassing the congress is just one of the reasons the EPA should have their federal budget cut in half. There's way too many meddling bureaucrats working at EPA and other federal agencies. Time to rein in the dunderheads in the federal bureaucracy...and deep budget cuts are the very best way to do so...and at the same time, send a strong message to the rest of the dunderheaded meddlers who are costing American consumers about $1.5 Trillion a year in added consumer prices. "The bill funds the Army Corps of Engineers at the President’s request level of $4.9 billion, supports existing applications for renewable energy loan guarantees at the Department of Energy, and provides a $697 million (7%) increase for the National Nuclear Security Administration to ensure adequate funding for critical components of our national defense."And here's more on the interior and environment provisions in the bill: "The CR includes $29.6 billion in discretionary funding in the Interior and Environment section of the bill, which is 8.1%, or $2.62 billion, below the fiscal year 2010 enacted level and 8.5%, or $2.8 billion, below the President’s request. "The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is reduced by $1.6 billion, a 16% decrease from last year’s level. The cuts to the EPA alone represent 61% of the bill’s reduction compared to last year’s level. Funding levels for Land and Water Conservation Fund (land acquisition) programs are reduced $149 million (-33%), climate change funding bill-wide is cut by $49 million (-13%), and funding for the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities is reduced by a combined $25 million from last year’s levels." Overall, the bill would cut $40 billion from current spending through the end of September. Here's more on the bill. http://thehill.com/blogs/floor-action/house/155409-house-files-fy-2011-spending-bill-early-tuesday-morning

Still, once anti-EPA legislation is written, it can wind up attached must-pass bills, or at least used to try and embarrass Democrats. Thursday night, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) tried to attach a measure to a bill on Chinese currency manipulation that ostensibly aimed to stop the EPA from regulating farm dust. But the measure's language doesn't actually mention "farm dust" after its title. Instead, it targets soot regulation. Democrats successfully blocked it.More troubling to environmental advocates is that they see the attempts to roll back regulations as a sustained effort that will not go away, and likely could pick up steam -- especially if Republicans take back the Senate in 2012. "I think it certainly will continue through the 2012 election," said Goldston. "I think it's partly an attack on Obama but I think much is a broader part of a Tea Party effort to question the role of government in providing public health protections across the board and funding that." And he predicted the range of attacks would only get broader. "This can play out in spending; this can play out in the series of efforts to block any additional protections, not only in the clean air area, but more broadly, there are bills that have been pending in the house and the senate ... that would change the entire structure necessary to create protections," Goldston said. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/10/09/epa-republican-war-defund_n_1000664.html IP: Logged | |
