As part of Obamacare, starting January 1, 2012, over-the-counter asthma inhalers will be banned. They will only be available by prescription. People need these to live. Even more ludicrous is the reason given: "To save the ozone layer." WTF? Aside from the fact that the sun creates ozone, and nothing we do can negatively affect it (one volcanic eruption destroys more ozone that our entire time on the planet), people will still use their inhalers; it merely makes them more expensive. I'm not surprised that Obama is using his plan to further the environmentalist agenda, though. Most Americans are no longer duped by global warming (or the recently dubbed climate change), so they bring back the ozone nonsense. ------------------ "Fall down 100 times, get up 101...this is success." --ME IP: Logged |

have to agree this is ridiculous. but your argument...if your neighbour tipped his garbage can in front of your front door, would you just say oh well, my bacon rinds and cat litter won't make much difference, i'll just leave them here too! ?? are you still under the impression that obama wrote the bill, all however many pages of it? or do you realize that the pharmaceutical and medical associations have huge lobbying clout in washington..? after all, congress writes the laws, right? Your analogy makes no sense, especially relative to using so-called ozone depletion as an excuse for requiring prescriptions for asthma inhalers. That's almost like saying we all must have a prescription in order to breathe oxygen from the air, because our exhaling creates CO2 which damages the ozone. ------------------ "Fall down 100 times, get up 101...this is success." --ME IP: Logged |

this strikes me as yet another gift to the pharmaceutical and medical assns, people will still get their inhalers but the money will be redirected.the analogy was a little clumsy i admit! but just because a bigger problem already exists, is that any reason to add to it, even in a small way? What bigger problem do you refer to? There is no ozone problem if you're referring to that. It is cyclical in regions which receive little sunlight. The ozone layer repairs itself. Quoting ozone depletion as the reasoning behind this is sheer lunacy...especially since the use of asthma inhalers will not go down. ------------------ "Nurture great thoughts, for you will never go higher than you think."--DISRAELI IP: Logged |

fair enough. however inhalers ARE misused by those who don't need them. they administer steroids to the user. and i figure the profit to medical suppliers is more the agenda than the environment. though the environment is def used to excuse many restrictions we don't need, personally i prefer an environment that is not over-full of steroid-propelled individuals! Hopefully, the Supreme Court will expedite a ruling and dismiss Obamacare in its entirety.IP: Logged |
