I had lurked for a long time and finally decided to participate because of my interest in astrology/metaphysical matters. Funnily enough, I am a life long republican (and I am from Chicago! go figure). I am very involved in the political process and pretty well informed.I have to say, that I respect everyone else's opinions and political affiliations. Although I take politics seriously, I would never, ever call a democrat names simply based on the fact that they identify that way. So, I do take offense to "republicans are idiots" etc. I am by no means an idiot and would prefer a serious debate on issues as opposed to name calling. The spirit of this board, I think, is to be respectful of others not disrespectful based on someone's political ideology. I come to this board because of a shared interest in astrology not to be put down because my politics may differ from others here. Just needed to say my peace. Thanks.
i don't think the board is disrespectful; there is a sense of community and what i think to be a sort of virtual 'family' that can be very supportive and caring but i don't think we've had anyone confess about their being a politician on here since this isn't exactly so cut and pasted with a suit so, if you were offended, i honestly don't think anyone meant any harm and really don't think it should've been taken personally. we're studying astrology in this section of the forum and to study it, there is a certain level of detachment that i think everyone ends up adapting to better understand and help themselves (and each other) but it isn't politics.. saying something along the lines of 'stupid republican' is what the 'republican' is, at large.. or at least, the few apples that have reared their heads at large. no one's really trying to get political votes here so being 'politically correct' isn't exactly something i think you should expect to see anywhere outside of the office; civil, maybe, on a good day; but no 'squares'. chicago, though... that's nice.. definitely hoping you're able to possibly reach a prominent position up there and maybe change the hierarchy along the way. it'd be nice, is all. Um no, republicans don't love idiots. As for who is an idiot, I guess that is a matter of opinion on both sides. My point was, I wouldn't say that on a community board that deals with an entirely different issue (astrology) where others on the board may be part of the 55% of the country that are in fact republicans. It is not my intention to be difficult just wanted to speak my mind in a respectful way.

I was not saying this board is disrespecful< i was speaking to a couple of posts. I am not a politician. when I said I am involved in the political process, I meant that I have volunteered etc. Geez, my only point was that politics can be very personal and that there may be people on here who identify a different way than others so let's not single them out as "idiots or bad apples". I love this board and have found it to be very enlightening so I thought I would have the proper forum to give my honest opinion and that's what I did. So to go ahead and ask ME to "be nice"???? I expressed my feelings/opinion in a respectful way. I thought that was nice enough.

You said it, not me. quote: Um no, republicans don't love idiots.
Why all the Bush love? Why all the hype around Sarah Palin? Why do idiots like Herman Cain and Ricky Perry keep winning polls over Mitt Romney (not to mention Huntsman but he believes in librul things like evolution)? quote: As for who is an idiot, I guess that is a matter of opinion on both sides.
True enough. But you can not deny that someone who says "I’m ready for the ‘gotcha’ questions and they’re already starting to come. And when they ask me who is the president of Ubeki-beki-beki-beki-stan-stan I’m going to say, you know, I don’t know. Do you know? And then I’m going to say how’s that going to create one job?" is a bleeding imbecile. I won't even get into how many jobs are created with military contracts because that really isn't the point. quote: My point was, I wouldn't say that on a community board that deals with an entirely different issue (astrology) where others on the board may be part of the 55% of the country that are in fact republicans. Actually, only 27-29% of the country actually identifies as Republican, the rest are independents or Democrats (~31%). When it comes to politics, I don't care who I offend, to be honest. It's important and if people feel ASHAMED of their political beliefs, perhaps they should reevaluate them. Is my Mercury coming through? Sorry, when I get going, it's hard to stop. IP: Logged |

Wow...are you kidding me? Do you really think I am going to get into a policy discussion with you on an astrology board. I expressed my opinion and you didn't like it, so be it. And who is ashamed of their political beliefs?? wtf? Not even sure what that means. Unbelievable...

Yup. And as I recall, you were the one that was initially offended. I don't know if you were expecting an apology or what. As a noob you should realize that this board does get into heated debates about many subjects unrelated to astrology. "If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen," as they say. IP: Logged |

The bigger problem is we are entering an age of "dysfunctional politics" not just in the US but all over the world.I mean Papandreou is the master of disaster. Berlusconi is a clown, thankfully he resigned thought. He should be working for Hefner hosting "bunga bunga parties". Lol We are also facing a voter turn out problem in lots of places in the world because there is a certain disgust with politics. Are newly elected Canadian prime minster was elected with the lowest voter turn out in Canadian history, less than 50% of eligible voters. It whould have been a diffrent story if the turn out was above that. Its ironic that we are in Afghanistan trying to promote free elections and here we are in the "west" with people not voting. --------------------------------------- Capircorn Rising Gemini Sun, 5th House Aries Moon Mercury in Gemini Venus In Taurus Mars Cancer IP: Logged |

I can take the heat, no worries there. I just don't resort to being hostile and rude. "As I recall, you were the one who was offended"...umm, yeah? So? So no one here can express an opinion contrary to yours without you getting in a huff? I will continue to express myself here, just like everyone else, despite you liking it or not...thanks for that though...

in their defense, i don't consider it them being 'hostile' or 'rude'; they're standing up for what they believe in and might possibly know; when so much unfairness is going on and no one seems to care or want to even listen, you chimed in to stick up for republicans rather than just chiming in and stating your personal point of view to then accompany it by including your affiliate party if u found it necessary to do so. --"life long republican" maybe, if you started that off a little different, you would've had a more receptive response from them. u identified yourself as the party; which is what you represent, at large, thus, u also are going to have to accept that by stating such, you're also going to have to claim and deal with everything else, just as well. their opinion and what they're saying is no more valid, important than what you felt was important to state because you were offended. i don't recall anyone ever saying 'poly..' you chimed in, so, what's best to do is represent your party and consider it a chance to leave a positive impression since you're so 'involved'. it'd only be the productive thing to do and who knows, if you ever do run for office, you could've just maybe had one whole forum of readers change their opinion about what they consider 'insert partisan party here' to be. So my OPINION was patently "false"? Huh?? I don't need any correction from you but thanks anyway. Why don't we just agree to disagree on this? You feel one way, I feel another...and never the twain shall meet. IP: Logged |

excuse me? but is this whole post just sarcasm? Seriously? I really cannot believe how expressing my one little point (that some people here may have differing beliefs so please let's not name call) has generated such hostility. did I maybe touch on something there? What a personal lesson in intellectual fascism this has been for me. Ridiculous! Your reaction to my one post, which was expressed in a nice, reasoned way, just proves my point all the more.

Your opinion, which doesn't seem to be backed up by information rooted in facts, is false, yes. There is such a thing as invalid opinions, contrary to popular belief. One opinion is NOT just as good as any other. I gave evidence for why I believe the Republican party loves idiots. All you said was "LOLNOPE!" and brushed your hands and then said "OMG STOP BEING SO OFFENSIVE." You are welcome to provide evidence to the contrary (that Republicans actually value intellectualism and policies based on sound, logical reasoning). This is an open forum. IP: Logged |

I do too. So much so that back in the day that is what prompted Randall to create GU. We all used to debate in Lindaland Central and in Astrology and BOY did we have some whoppers. That was back in 2002 / 2003 LOL... I definitely had some doozies. IP: Logged |
