There's just no getting rid of these guys. According to a budget proposal document from the General Services Administration, President George W. Bush is the most costly former commander-in-chief alive. He's asked for a comfy $1.3 million to get him through 2013 in the manner to which he has become accustomed, including $85,000 for phone calls! Meanwhile, his father, George H.W. Bush, has his hand out for $879,000; Bill Clinton has pitched for over a million to keep the lights on; and Jimmy Carter, who left the job in 1981, is set to receive more than $500,000 to spend on knit vests and Farrah slacks (possibly). Even Nancy Reagan is in on the action, with a $7,000 postal budget.

yes and it is okay for ex VPs to get new hearts on our dime too. but we are suffering from "entitlement consciousness" if we want some benefits from OUR contributions. what a wonderful system. IP: Logged |

We can get rid of all perks and all entitlements, and put half the federal government out of business. Balance the budget and repay the debt. Everybody except the President ought to take flights out of Reagan National or Dulles. That includes the Pentagon and their money wasting habits.IP: Logged |

Yes, and exactly who was it who flew over to Africa on government jets...with her daughters...listed on the flight manifest as.."support staff" on the taxpayer's dime?Or, had to fly into Martha's Vinyards days earlier than O'Bomber and used government jets which doubled the costs to taxpayers? Or, flew to Hawaii for vacation on government jets, days before O'Bomber and doubled the cost of their vacation for which taxpayers were billed for their "trips". Do you have any idea what it costs taxpayers when the O'Bombers fly anywhere katatonic. You see katatonic, we're not talking about just one government jet but many. And, we're not talking about just one team of Secret Service agents flying with them. There's teams of Secret Service agents on the ground in advance of their flights checking ground routes of travel and looking for possible hazards. I think your perspective is really skewed katatonic to be biatching, moaning, whining and screeching about the costs involved in maintaining former Presidents. IP: Logged |

jwhop i no longer consider anything you say as having any import whatsoever. you have contradicted your own basic building block of argument on another thread in your attempt to embarrass someone who committed the sin of disagreeing with you...back to zero buster.apparently you DO believe govt spending is necessary in a recession. especially on EX-presidents, though CURRENT presidents shouldn't spend a dime, right? as if a CEO doesn't make every trip a business trip? do i have to remind you that YOU purposely set the tone of b1tching and moaning here many years ago TO PUT THOSE YOU DON"T LIKE IN THEIR PLACE? like your own personal house of straw, the entire HATE CAMPAIGN will also fall before long. sit back and enjoy the show,..double olive? Wrong katatonic.I'd be delighted if O'Bomber spent a "dime" instead of the tens or hundreds of millions he and Michelle are spending on their junkets around the world. The amount spent on former presidents is chump change compared to what even Michelle O'Bomber is spending on junkets. IP: Logged |
