can you say "token black mormon woman" without tripping up? the fact that IF she wins, with NO STOPS financial backing from the party, she will still be the FIRST black woman REPUBLICAN in congress says a great deal..and where does this leave the anti-affirmative-action argument? IP: Logged |

IF you read the story, you would have noticed that the repubs are going ALL OUT to get her in the house, no expense spared. YOU tell me why.did i say there aren't any racists around? no i did not. there are also any number of people suggesting romney should have a black running mate, or a female one, is it racist to see what is going on under your nose? ann coulter:"our blacks are so much better than THEIR blacks" rush limbaugh: "herman cain is a REAL black man, unlike obama who is half african and half white.." more? yes, ami, i know your favourite response to something you don't like is disconnect. while i have no problem with this woman going to washington, it takes a seriously naive and blinkered reader not to see how hard she is being PUSHED. what a perfect antidote to accusations of racism and misogyny against both romney and the mormons..."look! WE have a rep in congress who is not only female (in scant supply there) but BLACK and mormon too! see, the mormons aren't a cult, and the republicans aren't against women and "coloureds"...in fact we have the BEST blacks in the country." i'm sorry, did the dems pull out all the stops and publicity for obama's very first announcement of candidacy for senate? it certainly didn't make a big splash in the media.i am aware that democrat candidates are selected too. back in the fall of 08 i said i don't fully trust anyone who runs for president. there are too many players and games to juggle, and i wonder why anyone would put themselves in that position. of course service is one answer, and hubris another. that doesn't mean the republicans are NOT being 100% cynical pushing a first time candidate for congress as the new black female mormon hope...!
