This made me laugh so hard I about fell out of my chair and then do some research and find out very little creative license was used to make this (other than O'Reilly's part in it): http://boingboing.net/2012/11/21/tom-the-dancing-bug-bill-o.html The part that I especially wondered about was the top tax rate being 91% in 1960 and found yep, looks to be true: http://www.businessinsider.com/history-of-tax-rates?op=1 So it was educational and giving perspective as well as hilarious. ^ Yep. We did crazy things like pay off wars and invest in infrastructure back then. Bunch of commies. I also enjoy what's been happening to our Gini coefficient over the past 30 years: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Gini_since_WWII.svg We're about to catch up with Mexico! Wheee! And, no, this isn't sour grapes. Greater income inequality tends (though is not "solid", especially when you're speaking about especially poor countries) to correlate with greater social unrest and political instability. That is my primary concern. IP: Logged |

Love it! Now I'm curious about the history of lobbying and crony capitalism- how has that been worsening over the years? One reason some people make SO much money is because they have our government working for them, creating markets for their products, writing laws about purchasing their products, opening loopholes that allow them to keep more of their earnings...all of that. So I don't trust gov't right away to fix the problem; they can just stop creating the problem, that would help. IP: Logged |

And don't forget multibillion bailouts which the recipients sometimes fly to Washington DC in their private jets to collect. But just for you, Faith...I bet you'll love this! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GTQnarzmTOc IP: Logged |
