The evil that is in the world almost always comes of ignorance, and good intentions may do as much harm as malevolence if they lack understanding.

ALBERT CAMUS, The Plague

All concerns of men go wrong when they wish to cure evil with evil.

SOPHOCLES, The Sons of Aleus

A resolution to avoid an evil is seldom framed till the evil is so far advanced as to make avoidance impossible.

THOMAS HARDY, Far from the Madding Crowd

Men never do evil so completely and cheerfully as when they do it from a religious conviction.

Matthew 7:13

Go in through the narrow gate, because the gate is wide and the road is spacious that leads to destruction, and many people are entering by it.

From someone who thinks a Christian man should let his girlfriend be raped and hit because he is too "loving" to stand up for her, you have wittle, wittle credibility with anyone

What, Ami? A thumbs down to the namesake of CHRISTianity, and some nonsense lie about what I "think"? I think you're having trouble distinguishing who has credibility here, and who doesn't.

Where did you get that interpretation?

And surely you don't think it's an all or nothing thing. That is, either you have to be a hammer or a nail, a wolf or a lamb. IOW, that you either have to go out and torture people to death for being Muslim or passively stand by while you or someone else is raped.

Most people can tell the difference between initiatory violence and self-defense. When a store owner shot guys trying to rob him (either Oklahoma or Arkansas) he fired his own gun shooting one down and causing the others to flee, which was judged completely fine. He even chased them out of his store still shooting (that gets a bit gray area, but with adrenaline pumping I think it can be overlooked, and his state did as well). Then the man came back (a cam recorded it which is how the police know, and it was shown publicly), gun empty, calmly reloaded his gun, walked up to the unconscious boy on the floor (whom he'd shot and whom the state said was legitimate self-defense when the guy had been up and menacing him with a gun and not unconscious on the floor) and put a bullet in his head as he lay there to make absolutely sure he'd never wake up (btw, that boy he killed was 14, he and the other kids had been put up to it by an adult who waited safely in the car while he had his kids take the risk while he planned to take most of the money). Up until that last shot fired he'd been fine, there would've been no prosecution, but with that last shot fired he crossed the line from self-defense to vigilantism and became a murderer, and THAT was why he was arrested and convicted by a jury of his peers. I can see clearly why the last shot crossed the line from self-defense to murder (or at least manslaughter), so could the police, and so could a jury. Can you? And what do you think Jesus (if walking in) would've said as the store owner was about to shoot the unconscious boy on the floor?

Bonus question, what do you think of your tax dollars being spent on sodomizing people against their will (in addition to other torture), as was done by CIA to an innocent man for having the wrong last name? He was very likely a Muslim, innocent as he was. Should Americans stand against evil & terror by standing against torture and sodomy of people who have the wrong (and Middle Eastern) last name, or should people stand against evil by sodomizing and torturing those who have any possible links to terror? If Jesus could be called what would he say do, use more civilized means (that didn't mean torture & sodomy) or to throw in an extra sodomy from him?

And surely you don't think that if the CIA refrains from torture & sodomy that therefore they can't do anything else?

And how about the Spanish Inquisition? Ok when it was torturing Muslims? What about when they started torturing Jews? Is the important fruit what we do, or who does it to whom?

Where did you get that interpretation?

Last year, on GU, a person said that if a Christian guy were out with his girlfriend and guys tried to attack her, the Christian guy should not fight for her because a Christian guy ( or girl for that matter) should not fight.

Pity the poor girl who dates this person and they are walking through a bad neighborhood
