Besides this biased opinion, you would be suprised how many people have terminal illnesses that cannot work. Have you ever known anyone with heart troubles, diabetes, cancer? Have you ever watched them slowly lose their health, all the while medical bills add up. Most of these people have worked all their life and paid into these funds. Not everyone is scum or expecting handouts because Obama is President. Times are tough for some people. Single mothers/fathers who work for a temp agency making peanuts no full time work so no health care... unable to afford.please try to not be so biased....u may be blessed to not have to ask for those handoutsIP: Logged |

Ok, had a chance to read during lunch. The 14,000 figure includes children, I'm betting the 10,000+ figure includes partially disabled. FWIW, the NPR article's really worth the read. ------------------

I would be dead decades ago without help from Disability programs and other help.
I hate it but that is how poor and disabled folks must survive because otherwise they have no choice but to die.
Walk in my shoes (when you are not bed bound and can walk)...and the shoes of others who are poor and disabled, instead of looking down on us like we are all dirt you feel free to spit on and hate from your high and mighty place of wealth and health.
You should be counting your blessings instead of preaching trash about poor and disabled.
You obviously have no idea what dumpster diving for food is like or suffering for lack of medical care etc.
Rant over before I get even more upset.

My sister is on disability, because she deals with an anxiety disorder, and used to be agoraphobic. I *should* be on disability - it would give me maybe $500, which would cover food for me and my dogs right now (not sure about supplements, and would do nothing re: rent and other bills). I'm not on disability, because I was too proud, thinking I would be working long before now, and I didn't want to see a psychiatrist who would force me onto a medication (that was one thing my sister dealt with, years ago). I also have issues, and didn't want to have the physical. If I had that money, though, it would give me a much-needed boost and some independence. I might try for it now, because I NEED it. I have NO income, and I'm a drain on my parents, who can't really afford to feed me and do anything beyond work and eat themselves (dad works, mum no longer does). They should be retired by now, and COULD retire if it weren't for me, and my sister also needing food when she's here (which is most of the time). I hate it when people just decide that everyone on disability and/or welfare, is a leech, a liar, a no-good ******* looking to exploit honest people. IP: Logged |

Please apply asap because it can take a year for approval.
Talk to whoever handles disability and welfare and section eight and so forth in your area.
I must warn you though,
that living on disability is very hard, basically like you said; some $500 a month which covers hardly anything. But check into things because you can get additional non monetary help,
medical, section 8, food card, and so forth.
PS.
Depending on your situation you might still be eligible even though you live with your family.
Ask what the criteria is.
I do not know offhand but my ex brother in law got it years ago and lives with his mother and brother etc.

Some of the comments in that article were poignant. The demonic author Warren has the nerve to label the sufferers of acute degenerative disease as being on welfare, whereas those who are taking the assistance are feeling guilty even though it is their right. In Vedic Scriptures, it is said just one curse from a disabled person was enough to destroy a lineage of Royals who hurt that person. In Nazi Germany, the author would have supported those who killed disabled people so that only the strong Germans served the Fuhrer.Obama has several failures, especially the drone program. But this one stellar success of being fair to disabled and sick citizens is more than enough for him to be a winner, and will guarantee a victory to the Democrats again in 2016. And statistically, 10/300 millions is quite accurate considering the very large number of elderly people and close to a million War Veterans in America.

Assistance was made for people who had real disabilities of various natures. Then, Obama came along and grew the program to a behemoth magnitude but it was not because he "cared". It is because he wants to control as much o the population as he can for votes. That is what it behind this.Soon, all the people on assistance will be forced to have the chip, too, but that is an aside  ------------------
