It wasn't the T-shirt so much as how he reacted when told that wearing it was against school rules. I think his father is totally foolish, encouraging his son to challenge the system like that. If they feel that strongly against school rules, transfer to a private school or home school. IP: Logged |

Indeed. School rules are in place for all kids all the time. ------------------ Christian, Jew, Muslim, Shaman, Zoroastrian, stone, ground, mountain, river, each has a secret way of being with the Mystery, unique and not to be judged. Rumi IP: Logged |

They quote the 1st Amendment, but you have no free speech in school. Still, I don't see why he can't wear a shirt that is clearly not disruptive. IP: Logged |

Yes. I mean if the child had a gay pride T shirt, can you imagine the uproar is this happened to him.

While I agree with this overall, I still see no reason to have the police or courts involved over a kid wearing a shirt! If the school felt that strong about it they should've just expelled him, not called the cops or waste the prosecutor's time with this. Though it's happened before. One boy was taken to jail for wearing his cap backwards which was seen as a possible gang sign (him being black in a white school in Arizona didn't help), and it was justified that if kids could wear their cap backwards without going to jail then they'd be wearing dead skin masks next (seriously, it was about that bad). And one kid even faced charges of "attempted terrorist threats" (how does one ATTEMPT a terrorist threat?) by writing a story of zombies attacking his school and those within having to use guns to defend themselves (including those who became zombies), and he was actually facing felony charges over it... How can people not see the insanity of it? IP: Logged |

False. When I was in high school not too terribly log ago, you'd have to turn your shirt inside our if it had any political or offensive messages on it. Most schools (at least in my county) have only grown more (often ridiculously) cautious. ------------------ If I've included this sig, it's because I'm posting from a mobile device. Typically the news wants to sensationalize things and will leave out key parts of the story. The video in the link Ami posted says that the boy "started a riot" in the lunch room when he was told to take off his shirt. So were the police contacted about the shirt or the riot? IP: Logged |

The goal of the public school system is to indoctrinate kids into society, i.e. brainwash them into submission. Those who resist get drugged. Rebels (leaders) are squelched. Inevitably, a few always rise above and become those who change society in some way for the greater good, despite the mass hypnosis schools impart. IP: Logged |

The trick is to keep off-grid and pull little attention to yourself while keeping your ideas for future times. IP: Logged |

Good question (I hadn't seen the video before). Thing is, cops trump up charges all the time, so if you like are too startled to immediately get on the ground you can be charged with resisting arrest, throw a doughnut at a cop and it becomes a felony assault, etc. It really is too bad they didn't define what they mean by "something of a riot" (though one person can't riot, and if he'd inspired a riot there'd have been more arrests). ^ Yeah journalism is such a joke nowadays. Most of the stories like this are full of holes. As for the police, my understanding is that some will rough a person up for no good reason while hollering, "Stop resisting!" Lack of principle within police departments is depressing.
