Juni,I'm currently unemployed. We moved for my wife's job to a place that unfortunately has higher unemployment, and thus far have only been able to do temp jobs. We'll be moving back to the Bay Area in January. This experiment kind of failed.
I'll be getting my insurance -probably this week- from Covered California.
Since writing about that deductible maximum to you, I've seen several mentions of that precise deductible: $12,700. I don't mean for that to sound definitive, because I'm not truly sure yet. I haven't seen any mention of deductibles higher than that, though.
My former plan was sponsored, yes, and it was conforming to the law, and it did rise in premium slightly.
With regard to self-employment, it seems like we're getting very little word about how a family making up to $90,000/year is supposed to be eligible for subsidies. I know people are taking a cursory look at the possible pricing, but I'm not sure if they're allowing their curiosity to check on what subsidies might be available. It seems kind of like looking at the price of a car and taking that at face value without considering what programs the dealership might have that might mitigate that price.
It's unfortunate that Michigan decided to go with the national health care site. That makes things more difficult. It looks like you can call Health Insurance Consumer Assistance Program (HICAP) 877-999-6442. I would hope that they could help establish whether there's any subsidy available or not.
