Randall, Walmart is a big part of the corporate destruction of small business. If you think that should be rewarded, then you are approving of the redistribution of wealth yourself. Out of the hands of individuals who are swallowed up by leveraged, subsidized global companies and into the hands of the banks and multinationals. Some of Walmart's employees used to have their iwn businesses. Maybe they are in "transition" but niw they can't afford not to work for the people who outpriced them through sheer size and the backing.of Wall Street and banksters. IP: Logged |

Well working for Walmart proved to be "transitional" for at least one employee yesterday as he was trampled in the Black Friday sales. RIP. Will Walmart put out a bucket for his fellow employees to donate to his bereaved? IP: Logged |

seriously, on papers, it makes human being look cold hearted... I suppose people are hungry, is walmart a food shop? really, I feel sad for these people who think they will be happier with the lattest home cinema... nowadays, many people do not realise how much time, effort, work, and chance, one used to need before... walmart, carrefour, and all that way of life is making us forget how tu grow food and ultimately how to be self sufficient. a kid that grows up today has seen all his life every kind of "once upon a time" exotic food on the shelves of shops. it is normal for him considering even his parents probably don't know themselves how to bake a cake and only know the industrial ones... I think besides the danger of becoming impatient lil brats, people of today and tomorrow run the risk of becoming completely dépendent of big corporationsIP: Logged |

Most of the sales are not food, no. This is pre-christmas shopping and the chance to buy things you covet, or even need, at wholesale prices, almost. It is a longstanding tradition and I remember going to them once, when I was about 15. There was a table piled with shoes on sale...mostly not "efficiency" but designer and highpriced items so not Essentials. The pushing and shoving, and the lady who, when I said "excuse me" snapped "if you're so fancy, go to Saks!" were enough to put me off for life. That doesn' t mean I don't look for sale prices, but certain events like Black Friday are not worth the discount. And yes, total dependence on corporations would suit the corporations just fine. Not on my watch. IP: Logged |

I love the expression ! I don't know if it means Watch (for the time) but I understand it as Watch (on a boat, in the army, in the sense of "I won't let that happen unnoticed" ) IP: Logged |

In the army, etc, and in security firms, one's time slot as "lookout" - watchman -is called one's "watch" for short.IP: Logged |

Ah Norman Rockwell. This pleasant little dreamworld would be endearing if it weren't so dangerous. You won't find much innovation, hard work, and risk within the corporate structure, Randall. I dunno, maybe if you consider slave labor "innovation." Some do. Our country's ideals are forgotten in the face of that relentless greed of multinational corporations which answers to no government, to no sovereign people. The wealthy pull from the poor and distribute amongst themselves. IP: Logged |

Did it happen again? Walmart lost an employee to a stampede back in 2008. NY, I think. Just another sacrifice to the Golden Calf. IP: Logged |

xactly...The redistribution of wealth carries on at ever increasing speed as the small businesses are eaten up by thise big enough to do so. This is not socialism but fascism, when a few corporations can call the shots in government and every issue, when even brave and honest men must dance around the giants or be shot (or have their families threatened)...but by calling it "Free market" they scare people off who might temper their takeover with anti-trust laws or benefits for the workers.Apparently 17 people died in total in the Black Friday gladiatorial event. I guess they really needed whatever they went there to acquire. Not. IP: Logged |
