Yes, I am a super free speech advocate. I think anyone should say what they want. That is what free speech is. If she thought that about the Romney baby, she should say it.
She was afraid to lose her job, so that was the reason she said she was sorry, so this is not a pure free speech issue. It is Cover your Azz issue. Duck Dynastry was more of a free speech issue cuz he gave his personal opinion in an interview.

You didn't know what it was before this, Ami, as per a recent post of yours. The publicity stunt I mentioned has got your attention and now are you saying you're watching it? New viewers, presto!The episodes had already been filmed thru March. He lost not one red cent! And gained residual payments for old shows aired while everyone writhed over his "free speech". It is just another slick way to preach ones religion while hiding behind a political view. The PR stunt aided and abetted.It is a trashy show and it often times follows Honey Boo Boo

i think it was one i tried to watch once a long time ago but could not stand the awful acting, so changed the channel.
I'd wondered why i kept seeing Duck Dynasty products while out (at a bookstore - and no they werent books and another store - pillows, doormats, beer koozies, posters, tshirts and other junk i forget now) this was all before the recent headline making and it left me scratching my head wondering if people really buy this crap - or if the show really has such a super fan base that would actually purchase this **** .......??? maybe in the south. it boggled my mind. like a grown man is really going to wear a camo t-shirt with these guys mugs on it.........? okaaaaaaaaay..............lol

While political aspects can be squeezed out of the manufactured controversy, free speech isn't one of them. For the low information voter who is unaware of what the 1A is about the Freedom of Speech as explained in the 1A of the Bill of Rights says the government cannot censor people's views and the government has not done any such thing here. This is entirely in the realm of private business and public opinion, so even if this incident is genuine (as opposed to the cynical publicity stunt I'm convinced it is) then no one's POLITICAL rights to free speech has been violated. For it to become an issue of Free Speech as intended by the 1A then the government would have to censor the views, arrest the speaker or publisher, appoint a government bureaucrat to decide what does and doesn't go into an interview, close down the show themselves, and/or monitor message boards to delete discussions on whoever keeps talking about Duck Dynasty, etc. Ironically, the government itself demanding the show continue (taking control away from a private business) would most likely be a violation of the 1A (especially if it was to promote a religion), in any case it would be closer to violating the 1A than the government staying out of it completely as it has. IOW, freedom of speech doesn't mean freedom from consequences but rather freedom from GOVERNMENT censorship. You have the political right to express your views but if you offend enough people so that you lose your job or people boycott you then that's a social consequence rather than the government infringing on your right to say something offensive.
