Yes this article is from Salon. Yes, Salon are often ridiculous. But this is an interview with the author of a book. He points out the human side of the decline of the coal industry which predates the Carbon climate issues.

Decades ago a book called How Green Was My Valley talked about some of the same issues. There are ways to move forward and actually improve the lives of coal workers and the energy companies and the environment all at the same time.

And some of the investment in renewables is about just that. As I've said in the past, moving sideways is not only possible but inevitable..we don't have to cling to technologies that destroy our resources and the people who work them.

It doesnt even need to be a complete switch but a huge shift in proportion is coming and the pollution has to stop..not for Earth's sake but for ours..unless you prefer a future of cyborg humans who need neither food, water, air nor beauty..
