16 Reasons Donald Trump Is Not Wrong on Immigration

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump created a firestorm of controversy with his comments about Mexican illegal immigrants, asserting that they are "bringing drugs" and "crime" and include "rapists."

To date, his Miss Universe pageant has been cut from Univision and NBC, he's been severed permanently from his top-rated "Apprentice" show on NBC, and dropped from endorsement deals with Macy's, the Professional Golfers' Association, NASCAR, and even Serta mattresses.

He has also drawn criticism across the political spectrum, including from some of his GOP presidential rivals.

1. The border is extremely porous: The United Nations reported that 97 percent of the illegal immigrants who enter the U.S. clandestinely do so across the nearly 2,000-mile Mexican border, but only 20 percent of those who cross illegally are caught.

2. Illegal immigrants do bring crime: Of the 61,529 criminal cases initiated by federal prosecutors in 2013, more than 40 percent were filed in court districts neighboring the border. Nearly 22 percent were drug-related, 19.7 percent were violent crimes, and 10.2 percent involved white-collar offenses.

3. Immigrants are killing Americans: According to the Center for Immigration Studies, 57 percent of the 76 fugitive murderers wanted by the FBI in 2009 were foreign-born. The Center also disclosed that in Maricopa County in Arizona, 22 percent of felons are illegal immigrants.

4. Illegal immigrants pose a danger on the roads: About 4.5 million illegal aliens in the U.S. drive on a regular basis, many without licenses or insurance or even the ability to read road signs written in English, The New York Times reported. In Arizona, 63 percent of cited drivers have no license, no insurance, and no registration for the vehicle, and 97 percent of them are illegal aliens. Of the 188,380 deportations of illegal aliens in one recent year, 23 percent had committed criminal traffic offenses, primarily driving under the influence. Rep. Steve King of Iowa has estimated that illegal alien drunk drivers kill 13 Americans every day.

5. Statistics back up Trump's charge that illegals bring drugs: In Pinal County, Ariz., about 70 miles from the Mexican border, Sheriff Paul Babeu said marijuana seizures went from about 19,000 pounds in 2008 to more than 45,500 pounds in 2010. Babeu observed: "The Mexican drug cartels have almost toppled the Mexican government and they are crossing into Arizona at will. Pinal County has seen mass murders, execution-style slayings, sexual assaults, kidnappings, shootings, armed robberies, burglaries, and more — all tied to illegal immigration."

6. Many immigrants entering the country illegally have a criminal record in the U.S.: In 2010, the Border Patrol reported that 212,000 illegals were caught in the Tucson, Ariz., sector alone, and as many as 30 percent of them already had a criminal record in the U.S.

7. Many illegal alien convicts have been arrested multiple times: A Government Accountability Office study of 55,000 illegal aliens found that they were arrested at least 459,614 times, averaging about eight arrests per alien. About one-quarter of them had 11 or more arrests.

8. Deportation of illegal immigrants doesn't keep them out of the country: Due to the wide-open Mexican border, the number of people prosecuted for coming into the country illegally after being deported has increased by 175 percent since 2005, according to a report cited by the Constitution Party website. The illegal alien recently accused of randomly murdering a woman in San Francisco had previously been deported five times.

9. The Mexican border is being used by illegals from other countries: Arrests by the Border Patrol of illegals from countries other than Mexico, particularly from Central America, increased from 59,000 in 2010 to 99,000 in 2012.

10. Immigrants are filling U.S. jails: One quarter of all inmates in California detention centers are Mexican nationals, as are 40 percent of inmates in Arizona and 48 percent in New Mexico. And 75 percent of those on the most wanted criminals list in Los Angeles, Phoenix, and Albuquerque are illegal aliens.

11. Illegals do include "rapists," as Trump charged: Among many examples, an undocumented alien was arrested in Baltimore for raping a 9-year-old girl. In Austin, Texas, police arrested two Mexican nationals who allegedly participated in the gang rape of a 13-year girl in June. As many as 13 men took part, and some filmed the crime on their cell phones. Earlier this year an illegal alien from Mexico admitted in court that he raped a 12-year-old girl.

12. Prominent figures agree with Trump on the dangers of illegal immigration: Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani told MSNBC that while most people who cross the border come for economic reasons, "hidden with them, because they're coming across unchecked, are people who rape, murder people, kill people and are terrorists."

Retired neurosurgeon and GOP presidential candidate Ben Carson said he agrees with Trump that sanctuary cities, who prohibit the use of municipal funds to enforce federal immigration laws, should be outlawed. "No sanctuary cites," he said. "I think that's ridiculous."

Michael Cutler, who spent 30 years with the Immigration and Naturalization Service, said Trump is "really igniting a firestorm that's a long time coming."

And GOP presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz, who represents a border state, said: "I salute Donald Trump for focusing on the need to address illegal immigration. The Washington cartel doesn't want to address that. The Washington cartel doesn't believe we need to secure the borders."

13. Ordinary Americans agree with Trump as well: According to Rasmussen Reports, 63 percent of Americans want the U.S. to gain control of the border. A recent CNN national survey found that of the announced Republican candidates, Trump placed second only to Jeb Bush. And Bill Kristol, founder and editor of The Weekly Standard, said Trump "is an outsider who was saying some things that the establishment doesn't want to hear, that is resonating with voters."

14. Relatives of victims know that Trump is right: The mother of a teenager who was murdered by an illegal immigrant gang member, Army Sgt. Anita Shaw, praised Trump for "trying to do something about a failed immigration system."

15. Even wealthy Mexicans agree with Trump: Reuben Navarette Jr. writes in The Daily Beast that Mexico's elite, despite displaying "outrage" at Trump's comments, often speak in the same manner at high-end golf courses and banquets.

Trump did not appreciate the CNN host's questions about a court case that was settled in 1999 and surrounded the Trump Tower construction crew.

Donald Trump did not appreciate Anderson Cooper's line of questions surrounding the construction crew he hired to build his Trump Tower in Manhattan.

The presidential hopeful appeared as a guest on Wednesday's Anderson Cooper 360º, where the CNN host asked about a court case that Trump settled in 1999 surrounding 200 illegal Polish immigrants alleging they were paid less than minimum wage back for their work back in 1975.

"I hired a contractor," Trump replied about the Trump Tower construction crew. "Anderson, I hire a contractor. The contractor then hires the subcontractor. They have people. I don't know — I don't remember, that was so many years ago, 35 years ago they said we had some illegal immigrants."

Trump did not appreciate it when Cooper continued to question him about why he wouldn't have known if the workers were illegal immigrants.

"Anderson, when you have to go back 35 years to tell me about something, I think that's pretty pathetic, to be honest with you," Trump said. He added that a recent Washington Post story about illegal immigrants being hired to build his latest Washington, D.C. hotel was not credible because it did not name its sources.

Cooper also asked Trump how much money his comments about Mexican immigrants in his presidential campaign speech have cost him, but Trump declined to cite an exact figure.

"It's a lot of money," Trump admitted. "But fortunately, I am very rich. It doesn't matter to me."

Cooper asked Trump for his thoughts on fellow presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, whom Trump referred to as "the worst secretary of state in the history of the United States." When asked why Clinton does not frequently talk to the press, Trump added, "She has a lot to hide."

According to the financial statement released on Wednesday, Donald Trump was highly successful investing in stocks.

Multiple stocks, which were sold in January 2014, yielded Trump a return of more than $27 million.

The statement was filed Tuesday afternoon, the billionaire developer’s campaign said Wednesday.

It discloses nearly $213 million Trump received from NBCUniversal during 14 years of hosting "The Apprentice" and almost $27.1 million earned in January when he sold stock in such companies as Facebook, Yahoo, Boeing, and Best Buy.

Trump also earned $22.3 million from investments in mutual funds and hedge funds.

His net worth was higher than the $8.7 billion disclosed in the FEC statement Trump filed when he announced his candidacy in June. That statement was more than a year old, his campaign said.

The $10 billion figure makes Trump the wealthiest person ever to run for president, far surpassing previous magnates like Ross Perot, business heirs like Steve Forbes or private-equity investors like Mitt Romney, the 2012 GOP nominee.

"First, people said I would never run, and I did," Trump said in announcing the filing. "Then, they said I would never file my statement of candidacy with the FEC, and I did.

"Next, they said I would never file my personal financial disclosure forms," Trump added. "I filed them early despite the fact that I am allowed two 45-day extensions.

"I look forward to the challenge of winning the presidency and doing a fantastic job for our country. I will make the United States rich and strong and respected again, but also a country with a 'big heart' toward the care of our people," he said.

Overall, Trump's net worth increased because of rising real estate values in "New York City, San Francisco, Miami and many other places where he owns property have gone up considerably during this period of time," according to the announcement.

"His debt is a very small percentage of value, and at very low interest rates."

In addition, the $362 million Trump earned last year excludes "dividends, interest, capital gains, rents and royalties."

Regarding his stock sales, Trump made $6.7 million on selling 710,000 shares of Bank of America; nearly $4 million on 65,000 shares of Boeing; almost $3.9 million on 100,000 shares of Facebook; $2.2 million on 110,000 shares of Best Buy; and nearly $581,000 on 38,000 shares of Yahoo.

But Trump also lost money on some stocks: $204,000 on 38,000 shares of the homebuilder D.R. Horton; more than $121,000 on 21,000 shares of Occidental Petroleum; $71,350 on 23,000 shares of Coca-Cola; and $4,206 on 12,000 shares of PepsiCo.

The FEC filing also listed "almost 500 business entities, of which 91 percent are owned 100 percent" by Trump, the announcement said.

One more thing, $10 Billion is the LEAST Trumps holdings are worth. Many of the categories on the list top out at $50 Million and it could be Billions, actual. But, you check the $50 Mil box because it's the top number listed.

Donald Trump is reportedly daring MSNBC host Lawrence O'Donnell to put his money where his mouth is, after the network pundit called him a liar Thursday morning about his earnings from NBC's hit series "The Apprentice."

"The Trump Challenge" came after O'Donnell and "Morning Joe" host Joe Scarborough got into a heated argument over Trump's financial disclosure statement Wednesday,
in which the presidential candidate declared he earned nearly $213 million from NBC Universal during his 14 years of hosting "The Apprentice."

"He said he wants to bet a certain host on MSNBC that came on and called him a liar — and if Donald Trump is not telling the truth about how much money he made off of 'The Apprentice,' then he will give said host one year's salary," said Scarborough.

Donald Trump's challenge to MSNBC host Lawrence O'Donnell is off, after the pundit admitted on his show Thursday night that he likes the candidate and that he may have been "wrong" when he accused him of lying about the money he earned for his reality show.

"I'm very disappointed," Trump told MSNBC's "Morning Joe" program Friday. "I was really all set to go after him this morning. And now I feel guilty if I do that. I feel very, very guilty."

On Thursday's "Morning Joe" show, Trump called to bet O'Donnell his "Apprentice" salary if the "Last Word" host could prove, as he claimed, that Trump had exaggerated the nearly $213 million he listed in his campaign disclosure statement as having earned over the show's 14 seasons.

Just before that, O'Donnell and "Morning Joe" host Joe Scarborough had a heated argument about the issue, with O'Donnell continuing his arguments on Twitter after leaving the live program.

But by Thursday night, O'Donnell was ready to step back, and said on his own show that Trump has often treated him very well.

"Just three months ago. Donald was making his grand entrance in the ballroom of the White House Correspondents Dinner and I was sitting alone at a table minding my own business. He spotted me, called my name and what he — watch what he did — he stretches out his hand for a handshake," O'Donnell said, showing a film clip.

"He does that to a guy who savaged him four years ago when he was talking about running for president. I bothered him so much back then he threatened to sue me, but he didn't care about that when he saw me. He just wanted to shake my hand and wish me well ... in that moment, Donald was a bigger man than I was and I liked him for that."

He said Trump also reached out to him a year ago, upon his return to his show after a long hospital stay following a car accident.

O'Donnell said he got "hung up" about the money Trump earned, but, "where I come from, no one settled disagreements with bets because no one had money to bet. So no, Donald there won't be any bet because I would never bet about anything. I just don't bet, period."

Also, he said, he doesn't want to be the topic of a story about Trump, as he wants to cover Trump's campaign. And, what's more, "I might be wrong. I have never said I know exactly how much Donald Trump made for the entire series. I don't know. I have made semi-educated guesses about it and I don't care very much about it. I don't really care."

O'Donnell also apologized to journalist April Ryan, who had joined the panel to discuss the question she had posed to President Barack Obama the day before about the rape allegations against comedian Bill Cosby.

"I am really sorry that I wasted the time that should have been focused on what April Ryan had to say," O'Donnell said. He then replayed Ryan's statement from the "Morning Joe" show.
