The Obama administration is cracking down on dishwashers.

The Obama administration’s new efficiency rules for dishwashers are coming under fire from industry insiders who say the government has just gone too far – that the feds should really keep their noses out of America’s kitchen-cleaning habits.

Rob McAver, head of the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers, said the new efficiency standards pushed through the Department of Energy are so stringent that consumers would end up having to re-wash dishes, the Hill reported. And that would pretty much negate any gains from washing dishes by appliance.

“At some point, they’re trying to squeeze blood from a stone that just doesn’t have any blood left in it,” he said, the Hill reported.

McAver accused regulators, who are in charge of making sure dishwashers don’t use more than 3.1 gallons of water per load, of a politically motivated agenda, the news outlet said. He also said the new standard leaves “pretty disgusting” food residue on the dishes.

“The poor performance that would result would totally undercut and go backwards in terms of energy and water use because of the need for running the dishwasher again, or pre-rinsing or hand-washing, which uses a lot of water,” he said.
