Obama would gladly ban private ownership of firearms if he could, and many on the left would support that decision.IP: Logged |

What are you basing this theory on? Gun sales have been rising under his presidency, so please explain how he is attempting to take everyone's guns. I guess his evil plans were thwarted. It's always a good idea to follow the money. Anyone convinced that Obama is trying to take people's guns is falling for the propaganda. The gun manufacturers are laughing all the way to the bank. Calling for more responsible gun ownership, and making it slightly more difficult to buy a weapon is not the same as an all out ban. The argument that continuing to sell weapons in a free for all market will prevent future mass shootings is absurd! There is something really wrong with that mentality....more guns will lead to more armed people, which will then prevent mass shootings??? That makes my head hurt! Sadly a lot of people think this. It's not a theory. Obama passed 23 Executive Orders restricting firearms, so, of course, gun sales would go up. But that wasn't Obama's goal. IP: Logged |

He's not trying to ban weapons! The San Bernardino shooters used guns that were legally purchased by a neighbor. The guy then transferred ownership to the shooters. This is a huge loophole that many criminals use to get around the law, and one that Obama is trying to close. These WERE legally purchased guns! Along with thousands of rounds of ammunition. Not to mention that practically anyone can go to a gun show to purchase a weapon without a background check. This is a prime example of why easy access to these weapons should be taken more seriously. Restricting gun sales, and banning all private ownership of guns are two completely different things.

Any idea what was in those EOs, Randall? Please show how they indicate a desire to prove the malicious gossips at Fox and the NRA right, or admit you have only innuendo and jumped-to conclusions about his intentions by those mindreaders-in-chief...Half of whom work for Fox on false credentials as "experts' or the NRA who are making hay from pretending the end of gun rights is upon us...any day now for the last 7 years! Trump wouldn't be the first American candidate to get elected on a populist platform appealing to butthurt white men and to disenfranchise large numbers of American citizens (see Andrew Jackson and the Trail of Tears).IP: Logged |

Trump supporters who were read quotes from Hitler - but told they were said by Trump - had no problem with the content. One even said - after being informed that they were Hitler's words - that of course they were terrible if Hitler said them, but if it had been Trump speaking it would have been ok.IP: Logged |

I keep forgetting about Global Unity. I posted a link to a video of a young black man being assaulted by a Trump supporter. That man may not represent all Trump supporters, but there are too many that seem to - and Trump just revels in the attention and support, rather than having these people removed from his rallies, along with the protesters. The crazy ones are allowed to continue, they think what they did was just fine, and it goes on to happen again. Maybe if their idol would tell them they're out of hand, they would stop. IP: Logged |

I actually believe that Drumph is deliberately modeling his campaign on other authoritarian dictators like Hitler and Mussolini to show us how easy it is to get people to follow such hateful rhetoric if you sprinkle it with just enough populism. This the monster the Republican party created for themselves with years of bad economic policies that are destroying the middle class (with the help of DINOs like Clinton and Obama) coupled with divisive social rhetoric. Drumph is the biggest troll in history. IP: Logged |

Encouraging his crowd to deck protesters...now warning Sanders to call the protesters off or he'll encourage a Pre-emptive Strike (shades of GW and Iraq) against Sanders' rallies. There isn't a shred of evidence that Sanders has egged anyone on, but Donald can never be guilty of the results of his actions and words..in his mind. The man is creating some nasty karma for himself and others. Meanwhile he has proposed to alter the law to make it easier to sue people who say nasty things especially in print..pot/kettle ... And seems to think that "legislating from the bench" is legal... http://touch.courant.com/#section/-1/article/p2p-86065564/

http://www.forbes.com/sites/rickungar/2013/01/16/here-are-the-23-executive-orders-on-gun-safety-signed-today-by-the-president/ Here Are The 23 Executive Orders On Gun Safety Signed Today By The President President Obama has signed 23 executive orders designed to address the problem of gun violence in America. The following are the items addressed: Gun Violence Reduction Executive Actions: 1. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal agencies to make relevant data available to the federal background check system. 2. Address unnecessary legal barriers, particularly relating to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, that may prevent states from making information available to the background check system. 3. Improve incentives for states to share information with the background check system. 4. Direct the Attorney General to review categories of individuals prohibited from having a gun to make sure dangerous people are not slipping through the cracks. 5. Propose rulemaking to give law enforcement the ability to run a full background check on an individual before returning a seized gun. 6. Publish a letter from ATF to federally licensed gun dealers providing guidance on how to run background checks for private sellers. 7. Launch a national safe and responsible gun ownership campaign. 8. Review safety standards for gun locks and gun safes (Consumer Product Safety Commission). 9. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal law enforcement to trace guns recovered in criminal investigations. 10. Release a DOJ report analyzing information on lost and stolen guns and make itwidely available to law enforcement. 11. Nominate an ATF director. 12. Provide law enforcement, first responders, and school officials with proper training for active shooter situations. 13. Maximize enforcement efforts to prevent gun violence and prosecute gun crime. 14. Issue a Presidential Memorandum directing the Centers for Disease Control to research the causes and prevention of gun violence. 15. Direct the Attorney General to issue a report on the availability and most effectiveuse of new gun safety technologies and challenge the private sector to developinnovative technologies. 16. Clarify that the Affordable Care Act does not prohibit doctors asking their patients about guns in their homes. 17. Release a letter to health care providers clarifying that no federal law prohibits them from reporting threats of violence to law enforcement authorities. 18. Provide incentives for schools to hire school resource officers. 19. Develop model emergency response plans for schools, houses of worship and institutions of higher education. 20. Release a letter to state health officials clarifying the scope of mental health services that Medicaid plans must cover. 21. Finalize regulations clarifying essential health benefits and parity requirements within ACA exchanges. 22. Commit to finalizing mental health parity regulations. 23. Launch a national dialogue led by Secretaries Sebelius and Duncan on mental health. It does not appear that any of the executive orders would have any impact on the guns people currently own-or would like to purchase- and that all proposals regarding limiting the availability of assault weapons or large ammunition magazines will be proposed for Congressional action. As such, any potential effort to create a constitutional crisis—or the leveling of charges that the White House has overstepped its executive authority—would hold no validity

First, gun legislation under the Nazis: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_legislation_in_Germany#History_of_firearms _restrictions_in_Germany Fact Check on Obama and guns: http://www.factcheck.org/2016/01/sorting-out-obamas-gun-proposal/ I believe that forgot to mention how Obama expanded gun carrying rights: http://www.businessinsider.com/gun-laws-obama-has-signed-2012-12 And http://uspolitics.about.com/od/Gun-Control/a/Gun-Laws-Signed-By-Obama.htm Note, that one of those laws Obama repealed was put in place under Reagan, and the other under Bush. I'll admit this surprised me, I was expecting President Obama to be a lot harsher than he was despite his promises. But unlike too many others, once I saw Obama was indeed keeping his promises (at least on this topic), I adjusted my thoughts and feelings in that regard to match the reality rather than my fears. Furthermore, his actions were still spat upon by conservatives and Obama was antagonized repeatedly (like protesters showing up armed and waving signs essentially threatening to kill "the tyrant" Obama) but he took the high road (as opposed to Trump who likes to use violence against those who protest against him--imagine what he'd do if people were to protest him while wearing guns and waving signs about watering the tree of liberty with the blood of tyrants--or Rice who had people jailed just for showing up with shirts criticizing the war in Iraq) and I think Obama should be given credit for not stooping to the level of those who antagonized him. Hitler would not have been so tolerant. Comparing any and all legislation regarding guns as "being like Hitler" is as absurd as saying those who promote prayer in school (like the Nazis) are promoting a dictatorship (as opposed to Trump making blanket racist statements and even encouraging violence and offering to cover legal fees of those who do which is a strong sign of fascist and racist leanings, whereas background checks on guns and socialized medicine are common in most free nations). Most nations clamp down far tighter on guns than the USA does and they're not dictatorships. Canada has socialized medicine and stricter gun laws (this doesn't mean guns are completely prohibited) but they're not sending people to the gulags or death camps. Heck, there was a time in Soviet Russia (I'm thinking 1972 for some reason, but I lost the book with the exact date years ago) where the crime had gotten so bad in Leningrad (St Petersburg) that guns were handed out to the citizens (essentially deputizing them) to combat it, and the people did so, giving the guns back when it was over, because guns don't stop authoritarianism. Frankly, I think if a right wing dictatorship were declared in the USA (I just can't see a left wing dictatorship declared here, not for several decades anyway, even many Democrats considered "loony Leftist" in the USA are considered "moderate right wing" by the standards of most of the western world) I'd bet most NRA members would gladly be deputized to help enforce it rather than fight it. And just to be clear...while the NRA is the largest gun owner rights organization in the USA, they still only represent about 5% of all US gun owners (though some have joined others, like Gun Owners of America, as they don't consider the NRA extreme enough). Most gun owners consider the NRA ridiculous, and often obnoxious to boot, and consider the current gun safety programs as being inferior (and even destructive) to what the NRA used to organize. Plenty are aligned with this guy who don't want guns banned, but do want to stop criminals, felons, and would-be mass murderers from getting guns: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YN6rjamk0Q0 Plenty also don't like the paranoia of the NRA. When I complained on how absurd the NRA was, one gun owner told me he left the NRA back in the early 80s because of the wild paranoia they raised over Reagan after the President was shot, and they've only gotten worse since then. Though it's funny how it backfired when after Obama won in 2008 (btw, note the NRA's fear mongering predictions of what would happen if Obama was elected, and then reelected, were both very wrong--as usual) and I got a phone call from someone claiming to be from the NRA to ask me about my guns. Turns out she really was with the bureaucratic arm of the NRA, but I figured she was asking for someone looking to steal guns and refused to talk to her, and then I heard several at the firearms range I belonged to back then also got the call. Unlike me, they didn't think criminals, but rather thought "Obama getting ready to take all our guns." The gun range managers put out a notice that the NRA was doing research as Obama won by such a landslide that obviously many gun owners voted for him, and the NRA wondered how that could be (so please talk to them). That's karma for you, the NRA panics people over and over so that when the NRA tries to interview their members (and those of my gun range, someone who ran it selling the names of all members to various right wing groups, some involving issues that had nothing to do with guns, for them to spam us) everyone the NRA has scared is too scared to talk to the NRA (fearing it's actually the government getting ready to take their guns). PJStubbornVirgo: #16 was parodied by the right and NRA as encouraging or insisting that doctors ask these questions...when what it says is there is no law that says they canNOT ask them. As to #17, ANYONE who has been threatened should be able to report it. It's nothing to do with patient confidentiality but everything to do with self-protection IP: Logged |

Saw this piece today. Trump threatening Sanders brings this bit of history to mind. The writer received an email inviting him to join a "guard" of volunteers to "protect innocents harassed at rallies"...Brown Shirts In the 1920's a militia known as The Sturmabteilung, commonly called the SA or Brownshirts, was formed to provide "protection" for Nazi rallies. Their primary function was at first to keep protesters from disrupting Nazi political rallies, but the SA quickly expanded to intimidation through violence. The SA was composed of racists and anti-semites, thugs and brawlers, and nationalist fanatics determined to "take back" Germany for Germans and restore their country to its supposed former greatness. Elements of the SA disrupted the rallies and meetings of opposing political parties and predictably began a campaign of intimidation against elements of German society they deemed undesirable, such as immigrants, foreigners, gypsies, liberals, Leftists, unions, and in particular Jews. At first, they were unarmed, but very quickly the SA became the paramilitary branch of the Nazi party and their tactics evolved into open armed violence. In large part, Adolf Hitler was carried to power on the shoulders of the SA. Ultimately the SA gave birth to the Schutzstaffel, the infamous SS, which at Hitler's order turned on the SA and in a day of murder known as The Night of the Longs Knives purged it of any elements not fanatically loyal to the Reich. Jump forward a century and remember the adage regarding those who forget history: “Do you want to provide security protection to innocent people who are subject to harassment and assault by Far-left agitators? If so, you are welcome to join. That’s the mission - to protect innocents who can’t hire their own security guards.” That's the mission statement of The Lion's Guard, a militia currently forming to "protect" Donald Trump from "far-left agitators." Lion’s Guard said that their members would be unarmed, “but willing to forcefully protect people if need be. We are defensive, protective of innocents who are being beaten and harassed for their political views.” Except for that part where the only innocents beaten and harassed at Trump rallies are those who protest Trump's message. The ones Trump supporters have called leftists and possible members of ISIS and enemies of the United States. Except for that part where Trump himself has threatened to send his followers to disrupt the rallies of his opponents. Just like the Stormtrumper who threatened me yesterday via email, these people seem to believe that the First Amendment applies ONLY to them and their candidate. More, they believe threats, intimidation, and violence are acceptable responses to anyone who opposes them. For the last 80 years, people have looked at the Nazis and Adolf Hitler and the atrocities committed by that horrifying regime, they've boggled at how a democratic civilized country could devolve into murder and genocide and madness, and asked over and over "how could something like that happen?" When it was over, when the Third Reich was finally defeated at the cost of millions of lives and devastation on a scale that defies comprehension, even the Germans themselves had no answer. If you look at the films and interviews from that time, ordinary Germans are stunned, shocked, ashamed, repulsed, and sickened by what they had wrought. Many still are to this very day. And we still ask, how could this happen? How? Inch by inch. Piece by piece. Goon by goon. Thug by thug. Speech by speech. Rally by rally. Fear by fear. Hate by hate. Until one day, Germany woke up to find their country had been stolen by madmen who promised to make them great again in a thousand years of glory - but instead led them to ruin and disaster in an orgy of blood. That's how. Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it. Over and over.

Why are people comparing him to Hitler, exactly? What is the body of evidence for this claim? He did say he wants to kill the families of suspected terrorists, so he gets no vote from me. Beyond that, what is so "Hitler" about him?
