Although I agree the timing looks suspicious, Obama did not pay ransom or betray U.S. policy.

Instead, the U.S. returned money that belonged to Iran that had been frozen in U.S. accounts for over 35 years.

In 1981, the U.S. entered into an arbitration agreement with Iran over claims arising from the 1979 hostage crisis. The return of the money was arbitrated through the Iran-United States Claims Tribunal:

btw...

the $400 million was money that was paid by Iran (under the Shah) to the United States for fighter jets in 1979. The revolution happened shortly thereafter, so we never delivered the jets, but also didn’t give the money back. It was put in a trust fund during the legal dispute, which has lasted for 37 years.

Fact checking? Duh! The article actually says that. The Wall Street Journal isn't going to report on something without revealing all the facts. We didn't give them anything for decades. The timing made it for all intents and purposes a ransom. They received the cash, and they released the four hostages. Does anyone really think Obama didn't say, "We will IF you release our guys"? Obama kept it a secret from the American people. That says enough right there. If he had nothing to hide, he would have been transparent.

We are not supposed to give them hard cash, because they use it to support terror activities. Hard currency, exchanged prisoners, and in secret. It's a ransom. It doesn't even matter if Obama didn't think it was a ransom--Iran thought it was a ransom.

We had to do an end around our own sanctions, it was in Swiss Francs, and it was airdropped in secret. And when you give money for hostages, it encourages them to take more hostages. If you give a terror state cash, they will spend the cash on terror activities, not on "infrastructure."

It was a bribe, and since the hostage trade was the same day, that makes it a ransom. In cash (Euros and Francs)? In secret? Unmarked drop? Yeah, it sounds very above board to me. And Iran won't be buying bottled water with that money.

I think that's okay. The U.S. (naturally i am not talking about the people) caused so much suffer for Iran.
First, they were friends with the Schah and then they betrayed Iran and started a friendship with Saddam Hussein who began a war against Iran.
And the reason? OIL!! O_I_L

but of course the Western countried, and the U.S. in the first place, never did any mischief. Of course the U.S. is very innocent and never did anything bad
