Terrorism aside, a natural disaster could occur and you could survive with supplies until help arrived.
My lifestyle is always have a week of food and water on hand.

Look at Italy yesterday and it`s earthquake.

Perhaps the goverment is simply being prudent?

Juniperb I agree that it's common sense to keep some staples at hand. I'm just weary when gov makes such announcements , can't help it.
In case of Italy's earthquake, even if they had stockpiled food and water it all would have perished under the collapsed buildings so this argument is not very convincing.
In case of war or civil unrest however, it would make more sense.
We're all uneasy here with Russia's army drill I guess.

We keep extra food, water, medications and first aid supplies on hand. I was raised this way because of where I grew up. If something happened like losing power in bad weather, then we had to be able to take care of ourselves without going to the store, etc. for at least a week.

It just always strikes me as intriguing when the government urges its citizens to do something like stockpile food and water. It does make me wonder if they know something that we don't (or that we're ignoring).

It`s a scary world and a shame we have to keep looking over our shoulder in prepardness.

I didn`t know about the Russian army drill. My prayers go out to the world .

Prepping 101:

1. Build an overhead water tank.
2. Maintain a 2 KW Solar Power System.
3. Install a Water Purifying Systems that run on Solar Power.
4. Stock Ramen Noodles and Vitamins.

One can survive for months this way.
