Seen from a european perspective, the election of Trump and his decision to focus on the USA, and to ask for nato countries to fund their defense is a good thing. ( on France And nato :<< Doubts over the strength of the relationship between the European states and the United States ebbed and flowed, along with doubts over the credibility of the NATO defence against a prospective Soviet invasion—doubts that led to the development of the independent French nuclear deterrent and the withdrawal of France from NATO's military structure in 1966 for 30 years. >> from wikipedia
The timing is perfect, right after the brexit. Because, no doubt he would have played the card of the division between EU member to slow down or alter the building of more europe. In particular in regards to army, taxes. But the main country against too much concentration in EU being out (Britain) the strnghtening of the EUROPEAN UNION is very much on the plan for Leaders from EU countries. So far the US have benefited from a european union like a shadow that followed every moves the US initiated.
Things are gonna change, and personnally I like to think that europe will be the place where the population control the 1%, at least more than now, not like the US with a billionaire znd his billioaire cabinet from goldman sack PRETENDING to talk in the name of true US population. Good luck to the progressive people in the US. and love to the people who voted him in,for the chance you gave to the EU to become what it has to, and my heart genuinely goes to you for the disillusionement you ll probably never admit, but experience nonetheless. Europe knows about leaders that rub up the people the right way.
So, overall, thank you
