I think the main reason for all immigration slowing, illegal or not, lowering is because of fear of unrest in America. This assertion that things are getting better in the US thanks to your president, is equivalent to patrons at a nightclub being happy that certain people are no longer showing up... but the main reason they're not showing up is because of violence in the club causing lack of interest to go there... because the club has gotten so ugly with violence and they're afraid of getting hurt there--not because the club is being run better. It's a non sequitur assertion that your president is making things better. He's definitely having a big impact on your country, its culture and the impression the rest of the world has on Americans, but none of it will be to your benefit in the long run. My biggest fear for you guys is that your president is not bright in too many important ways; he's involved with a country and people whose minds are much more fierce than his own; those people understand how to manipulate him in order to divide a nation; you guys are falling for it all, and soon you will be vulnerable to attack. Wouldn't Russia love to own America? Russia is a very powerful nation and they have fortified themselves in a very important area--online defence and attack. Your president is a businessman and not qualified in the areas he needs to be to keep you safe globally. He's also destroying alliances with other countries, so if you are attacked, you might not have the support you think you would. Has it not occurred to any of you that many of your people are already looking for and have new homes abroad because the unthinkable could happen--an attack on your own soil? America is not as strong as some think. That was something of the past it seems. A great army is nothing without great minds to lead it, and I imagine your president is replacing those minds with minds more like his own--that is scary. More than anything, from a non-American perspective, Your president is being portrayed as the Emperor in New Clothes wearing a beautiful new Russian suit. I can't understand why some of you aren't terrified at the posibilities. Internationally, there is little understanding for why there are any supporters of him, and apparent that it may be just because they aren't looking at the big picture. They're focussed on this schoolyard fight of petty arguments between democrats and republicans--there are great people in both parties and not so great people in both--but that is serving as nothing more than a major distraction to what is really going on. Focus on your president and the international consequences of his actions. IP: Logged |

What I can say is that precisely because you don't live in the states, your view of the situation is probably horribly skewed. The media is absolutely untrustworthy at this point in time (that this is now expected is a good thing, because it encourages skepticism), and unless you are present to see with your own eyes how things are really going here, a true perspective cannot be had. Everything reported is sensationalized to such a ridiculous degree, with selfrighteous outrage slinging from every possible corner, and I imagine only the very worst examples are cherry-picked on the world stage. I'm not surprised that other countries are scratching their heads based only off these "headlines".We are not all on the streets, or huffing in each other's faces. We aren't waving guns and flags, or mouthing off to strangers. We barely even acknowledge each other in passing, on the streets, and go about our daily business. The average American is continuing their days without much incident, trying to make ends meet, hoping for some change. We still grumble about our coworkers, lament over daily traffic, and angst about what to make for supper. This election has certainly shaken things up, if nothing else, and invigorated a basic, albeit morbidly amused interest in politics. Middle Americans (your typical person is actually a moderate) are, for the most part, reserving judgment, and playing the "wait and see" card. The real verdict will come in 2018, when elections come up, because by then we should have more tangible evidence if the new policies are having the desired effect on our daily lives. I'm pretty sure most of us are really tired of the nonstop mudslinging, though. It's really interesting to see the surge of curiosity about political stances outside Republican or Democrat, too. Personally, I'm just glad I won't have my income stolen this year as a punitive tax for refusing to purchase Obamacare. Oh, and this entire debacle has exposed the worst hotheads amongst my friends and family. That is always fun. Politics was always considered a taboo subject, along with religion, sex, and death, because it's very personal and unique to everyone. The anonymity of the Internet might have something to do with all this perceived outspokenness. IP: Logged | |
