It seems the disastrously unsuccessful war on drugs is about to be ramped up.. regardless of states moving in the opposite direction with great results http://www.cnn.com/2017/02/23/politics/white-house-marijuana-donald-trump-pot/index.html IP: Logged |

It's been legal here in Maine, and from what I observed most of the people use it to get high, not for medical reasons.IP: Logged |

It's not legal if it's still against federal law.IP: Logged |

The use of prescription painkillers has dropped off in states where its fully legal. The pretense thst persecuting pot smokers helps prevent opioid addiction is bogus. The assertion thst "no good people smoke it" is verging on evil. And the attempt to deprive many states of the tax revenues they are enjoying may hasten a change in federal law. Legal pot does not progress to harder drugs.. it prevents same by taking people out of the cartel market.. which also brings down crime. Great thinking WH IP: Logged |

I have a few friends who depend on it for pain management, and know a LOT more acquaintance-wise, who use it to help bad stomach conditions (that set off a whole host of other problems). IP: Logged |

Recreational use causes far fewer problems than alcohol to the body and the public at large. Keeping it criminal just keeps prisons in business. It has been admitted by members of the Nixon admin that the war on drugs was s tool for criminalizing blacks and hippies (antiestablishment youth) Keeping it criminal aids the pharmaceutical industry AND the drug cartels. Legalization has its problems too but appears to have a beneficial effect on crime figures and certainly doesn't lead to harder drugs for 99% of users. So what is the point of ramping up the federal criminalization? IP: Logged |

States' rights don't supersede federal powers. IP: Logged |

The point is that states have rights where the federal government isn't granted power. IP: Logged |
