Hi cat Yeah, it's good. I'm in another beautiful area of the country. Thinking of friends in FL and wishing the best. Last google check of power outage maps, it appears most of their respective counties have not had power since yesterday. I spoke to the older one before things got really squirrelly and told him to fill up his bathtub with water (tip from the news) and he said he had just done that. Besides power, water might not be running properly for awhile either. Not good times in that FL heat and humidity. Hope youre okay mirage and jwhop. IP: Logged |

I had to switch off of MSNBC because Rachael Maddow often drives me nuts. So does that one anchor who looks like Harry Potter's older brother. CNN is reporting 6.5 million FL customers without power - 7.5 in the south east. Customers, not people - or families. Customers is the one person who the bill's name is under. Do the actual math.7 million "CUSTOMERS" without power, actually equals how many = in family members???.....how many people without power in those households??? What is the average size "customer" (family//household) these days? Lots of suffering going on all over the ENTIRE world. I don't think anyone needs to remind anyone of that - that it's "not just in the US." Everyone knows that. I notice some people like to do that here. Just because someone extends some sympathy or words here about a certain group or area, does not mean they aren't thinking about others. So no one go there. Peace to ALL who are suffering everywhere. Wow... Thanks for all the well-wishings here. I TRULY appreciate it.Our little apartment 'hood had its power restored last night, and cable today at noon. We had NO flooding in our little area, but heard that a few streets away (where there are residential homes) they did not fair as well. Trees down on properties, and still no power (reported to me by neighbor who drove around the local streets). One neighbor here had a tree land on their car. The other neighbors helped cut the tree and remove it. They've been busy in the front part of our neighbor, armed with rakes, cleaning up to where you'd hardly believe anything happened. Our back part of the little neighbor (where I live) has mounds of branches, debris, pushed aside onto grassy places. I'll try to see if I can borrow a rake tomorrow and help clean up my own building, street, and surrounds. I had to get my apartment in order. Sorry I didn't get here soon enough after first appearance-posts... Our computer was "forced" to take some kind of plug-in and upgrade by dell??? Then, yahoo wasn't working, my favs were missing.... Then, minutes later, it all revived. So, HERE I am, back again, again?? LOL. The television started working of course... I've been having The Weather Channel on... watching some reports..... So devastating, that I hardly can form words. I had owned a home that flooded up to the window sills before. I KNOW what that is like. (Was in the 1980s). I had a baby and a toddler... And it was scary... and people had to get into row boats and canoes to get out. I went through Hurricane Charlie. Taking care of a house plus animals for a mom with her two teenage daughters who went on a tech-device OFF vacation to camp in the Appalachians. Had NO idea the hurricane changed course and headed straight AT us. There were NO emergency supplies in the home. No radio (nice neighbor gave me his transistor radio). Teens had stripped the place of any snack foods before leaving!! LOL. .. Her ex contacted me before the storm and invited me to stay at his home. I said, No, I promised name I would 'watch' her house. He said, If you're worried about the dog, you can BRING him with you. We have a room you can stay in. .. Still uneasy, I declined. There was a tornado. It peeled off the roof of the room I would have been in... (wow!!!). .. Her home (structure) was fine. Not-so only two or three houses down. .. We had had trees fall in the road, with heavy equipment and saws to unblock the road. .. We (dog and me and smaller animals) went through TEN DAYS of sweltering heat and humidity with NO power. I have a 'small' understanding of what others might be going through right now. I'm still stunned by all this. The stories of help arrival and SPEEDY SPEEDY SPEEDY restorations are AMAZING. People coming here from other states, EVEN Quebec Canada!! hoooo yah. The helpers that come out in full force during adversities are INCREDIBLE humans!!! *hug* "HAD" to listen to Fox A.M. radio The guy on the station was broadcasting from a Maitland building. .. That region is basically Altamonte Springs, located maybe 10 miles from where I am. They had a lot of problems being reported on the news.... .. You've probably seen video of homes along lakes just south of there, and in my county/ and sister-county. Ugh!... I wish THEM speed. Anyone hearing from Jwhop???
Again, you LL'ers are outstanding!!! Thank you soooo much for your Care and Concerns. (sorry if I am in/out. just tried one of my computer-features before posting, and it is not responding DUE to the NEW plugin they FORCED us to take.)

Hello all.Came through the hurricane ok. Went to higher ground and made some new friends in the process. Lost cable and internet service which was just restored about 10 minutes ago. But, the electric power never went off at my home. Across the street, theirs is still out. Came home Monday afternoon, no flooding...which surprised me and was the main reason I decamped for higher ground. The general debris is astounding...at my home and all over the area. Spent a lot of the day picking up tree limbs from my neighbor's huge Norfolk Pine tree. Haven't had time to check the roof yet but I'll be surprised if it's not covered in pine limbs too. The hurricane moved east Sunday and didn't make a direct hit, (eye) on the Tampa/St Petersburg area. Something to be thankful for. T, you moved and didn't tell me? I thought you were down around Ana Maria beach. You left paradise? Mirage, I didn't know you live in Florida too. Read your comments so I guess you made it through the hurricane in good shape. Juni, I didn't want to have Irma chase me all the way to Michigan. I figure you Northerners have enough problems without adding hurricanes to the list. In a couple of months, you'll know I'm right! Node, you were right. They closed to bridges to the barrier islands. We could get off but couldn't return...until about 4pm yesterday...Monday. Cars were lined up for more than a mile..at several bridges, waiting for police to open the bridges for return traffic. teasel, most for the grocery stores restaurants and gas stations are closed. Electricity hasn't been restored as of yet. Most of the gas stations are out of gas and may not get deliveries until the weekend. Those who survived Obama can survive anything! Cat, not a bad idea to blow Irma off course with hair dryers. Must have worked since she was blown East and went up the center of Florida...more or less. I hope all you who have relatives and friends in Florida have heard that they're all OK! Thanks again for your well wishes. I appreciate our LindaLand family. lalalinda IP: Logged |

Well look out seems the govt has some nasty ideas about what "recovery assistance " means. If this is true they are criminally stupid. If the waters didn't get you the aid just might😝 http://www.ecowatch.com/harvey-pesticide-naled-2484385387.html IP: Logged |

Juni... (loved it)Cat... Eco Toxic ???? Question/Idea--- Why don't the people who WANT that Mexican Wall built, hold their OWN event-- a Wall Fundraiser telethon concert, or their own Funding site where their base can contribute? Many of them are billionaires, yes? They can have their own fundraiser to build the wall. IP: Logged |

You have no choice in how your tax dollars are used. That's not how it works. I don't like my tax dollars funding abortions. Nothing I can do about it. We choose at the ballot box.IP: Logged |

Great to check in and hear that you are both okay, mirage & jwhop! Mirage, I actually didn't know you were a FL resident until I read that other thread that I replied in last week. I'm glad to hear you came out pretty much unscathed! Hang in there and stay strong my friend! Jwhop, great memory! Yes, I was a short jaunt from Anna Maria Island. That area of FL is what I consider "home" now, even though I grew up up north. I'll probably move back there at some point down the road....in my retirement?...lol ....Paradise indeed. it's "home" to me now and I miss it, but I've made a new home for myself elsewhere for now. I'm glad to hear you both are doing alright. I caught up with my old friend this morning - he also never lost power, although most of the city did and many stores aren't open and the ones that are, have empty shelves. He said the banks just opened back up today. The storm veering suddenly to the east before hitting that area helped a lot. He hunkered down in his "bathroom bug-out shelter" with his seeing-eye dog, but ended up waking up with a stiff back at around 3am and going back to bed in his room after realizing the storm went east. It's sad to hear what's happened in other areas with elderly folks passing away from the heat and in the Caribbean which they estimate might not have power back fully for at least 8 months.... Today in my old hometown the heat index was 103*. Typical September temps. . Last check 23% power left to be restored. I have to say, they seem to be restoring it there pretty quickly, but I know that is not the case everywhere. Anyway, glad to check in and find you two are alright! IP: Logged |

Thanks T RE that Nursing Home Facility--- They need to be SHUT DOWN PERMANENTLY, for shame!! Some staffers need to be ARRESTED, all health care licenses revoked, with JAIL TIME for some. I think it's LAME that they blamed all their deaths on failure of the Governor's line to respond-- after "ONLY" having tried 3 times. They NEEDED to have taken better responsibility for LIFE, and CALLED the Police and First Responders--- NO Excuse. RE the attempted phone call??? Maybe First-Responders could have reached the Governor FOR them??? .. -- NO Excuse. Remedy----- Every resident involved should be given FREE LUXURY nursing home care at THAT business' and personal-lawsuit's COST, for the REST of their living days! To include a furnished visitor's-apartment (free) for any loved ones who need to be closer-by during those impending and important crises times. FUNERAL costs should be COMPLETELY PAID FOR... not just the ones who died, but for ALL residents who went through that horror. *off soapbox* "Day of the Dophins" ... Jwhop, trust me (uh-oh, just sounded like the Donald there, lol) I miss them too! Probably more than they miss me. Mirage, I agree with everything you said. It's a terribly disgusting and sad situation all around.I watched the clip you shared and had to chuckle and think that one guy who said": Yes! Everybody loves EVERYBODY!! Now for Christ's sake let's everybody get the hell out of here!!!" LOL. I think he was a Taurus. Trying to be the most sensible out of the bunch. Anyway, this one's for you Mirage (and jwhop.....and anyone who appreciates this genre of music). I'm not ashamed to say my taste in music is closer to that of a 65 year old) And that I could not name a Beyonce, Lady Gaga or Taylor Swift song if you offered me a million dollars to. Very out of touch to bad music. Love Reign O'er Me http://youtu.be/gDbAtWpoA6k IP: Logged |
