Trump finally spoke with [Gov. Kate] Brown that night, she said Friday. By her account, he said that “you have all of our support, please let us know what you need, and God bless Oregon.”
Consistent with the zeitgeist were living in of hypertropic race consciousness, the writer brings up the race angle.
quote:
Oregon was founded just before the Civil War as a segregationist’s promised land. It didn’t allow black people to live there until 1926. It still has a lot of white people. They make up nearly 87 percent of the state. Granted, they live in a state that tends to vote Democratic. But their being white, one might think, would have interested Trump and made Brown’s plea unnecessary.
The allusion is to Trump's imaginary racism, that has been disproven by a number of people who have known him for years, the latest example being Herschell Walker, who spoke at the RNC.
quote:
This president of late has made it crystal clear that his primary, if not sole, desire is to paint himself as the man to keep white people safe.
That's why his Administration has instituted Operation Legend, sending increased law enforcement forces into communities plagued by violent crime, such as Chicago. Chicago has the third largest urban black population in the nation and has a massive black-on-black murder problem.
quote:
Operation Legend" is named after a 4-year-old boy, LeGend Taliferro, who was shot and killed while sleeping in his home.
President Trump:
quote:
"To LeGend's family, we cannot begin to imagine your anguish and sorrow but we solemnly promise to honor LeGend," Trump said. "We will be fighting every day to save the lives of America's children under 'Operation Legend.'

We know that both he and his son can stick up for the young terrorist who killed two in Kenosha, Wisconsin. But what about doing something about racist terrorism, which provably endangers people of all backgrounds?
Apparently, he hasn't seen the videos of the shootings in Kenosha. Either that or he's ill informed, which is odd for a journalist.
Racist terrorism? Currently, as we've seen night after night in cities across the country, the terrorism that is being documented is being perpetrated by Antifa, a left-wing domestic terrorist organization, which the media tries to portray as right-wing extremists.
On second thought: He's probably referring to blacks killed by police. What is left out of the discussion is that more whites are killed by police, and more blacks are killed by other blacks, but that's not called terrorism. The assumption is that if a white police officer kills a black suspect, it's automatically because of racism.
The article continues in this vein and conforms with typical media narratives. Like the vast majority of articles being written these days, this piece by Jamil Smith is advocacy not journalism.
