West Midlands Police: Solihull Covid 'harassment' goes viral quote: A man said he felt degraded after being detained in a police car when challenged on his way to work by an officer citing Covid legislation. His video of the events in Solihull on Wednesday has been viewed more than a million times on Twitter. It shows Nino Romano, 21, questioned on his plans, before he is called an idiot and threatened with "locking up". West Midlands Police said the officer's actions were "unacceptable" and there was no suspicion of any offence.

Did you see the footage in Germany of the German officer in the grocery store harassing a young man for not wearing a mask--the irony, the officer himself was not wearing a mask and got up in the person's face multiple times. The officer proceeds to beat the crap out of him. This was awhile back. Edit to add: Suggesting two things simultaneously, "authority" is ever hypocritical, and police types are police types wherever they are found. IP: Logged |

@Voix, what do you think happened there? Looking at the pic of the young man, he seems to be of mixed race, though my eyes could deceive me. Do you think there is a racial element in what happened? IP: Logged |

I didn't, no. I think some people are attracted to the police for the wrong reasons (to dominate others). How on earth did he get away with beating the man up? I take it he was sacked and charged? ------------------ "But you, my daughter, you will linger on in darkness and in doubt, as nightfall in winter that comes without a star. I think the young man is Italian ('Nino Romano'?). It would be unusual for an Italian to be the target of racism in the UK, not totally unheard of though. I think the policeman was throwing his weight around and thought that the covid19 restrictions gave him more power than they actually do. I think he thought he could spot check anyone, however a superior clarifies toward the end of the article that there was no suspicion of any crime, and that the policeman's behaviour was unacceptable. The poor man was just walking down the bloody street to work! I hope this is an 'officer issue' and not a new trend. I had to speak with a sergeant recently about something unrelated to covid19 and he sounded very stressed, verging on aggressive. I've worked closely with the police in the past when I worked in crisis work and found them fantastic, so it was a shock. What do you think? The police really didn't have any good reason to stop the man, so it could definitely have been a prejudice of some sort. Although I noticed that none of his colleagues intervened either... ------------------ "But you, my daughter, you will linger on in darkness and in doubt, as nightfall in winter that comes without a star. I didn't know what to think, as I am not familiar with the political nuances and dynamics of this part of the world. On the Covid thing, globally, some places are more authoritarian than others when it comes to controlling the population's Covid compliance. Just to name a few, India and Chinaa have in the past (and perhaps in the present) allowed police officers to stop, detain, beat up people on a whim. In this part of the world, apparently, this police officer was out of line, according to local laws. IP: Logged |

Yes, there was no suspicion of crime, therefore no justification for stopping him. And it's totally unprofessional for a police officer to call someone an idiot. That's not something you hear a lot of.I don't envy the police right now though. ------------------ "But you, my daughter, you will linger on in darkness and in doubt, as nightfall in winter that comes without a star.
