An indigenous nation in Canada says it has found 751 unmarked graves at the site of a former residential school in Saskatchewan.

The Cowessess First Nation said the discovery was "the most significantly substantial to date in Canada".

It comes weeks after the remains of 215 children were found at a similar residential school in British Columbia.

But since I live in Canada i'd chime in.

Anyway, the term we use is not "former schools" it's Residential Schools.

The goverment sold the idea that it was a way to assimilate Aborginals (thats the term we refer to Native Americans) into Canadian culture.

Children whould be taken from there parents often against there will then sent off to these Residential Schools.

The truth of the matter is it really wasn't to assimlate it was to erradicate aborginals.

It's worth mentioning the diffrence between how the US and Canada historically dealt with Native Americans.

Americans were more direct resulting in the American Indian Wars and conflicts. Canada is more subtle, say lets feed them rotten food and have them get sick. John A Mcdonald the first prime minster did exactly just that.

Canadians tend not to want direct conflict but find indirect ways to get back.

If it was any other school, it whould be a tragedy..but not as significant.

The Residential Schools System has a long history of documented abuses.

Name the worst type of abuse you can think of and it pretty much happened at a Residential School.

Sexual abuse, violence, etc all towards vulnerable aborginal children.

The goverment did formally apologize and acknowledge that the Residential School system was a genocide in 2010.

This (Residential Schools) and the British Home Children program..which is to be discused perhaps another time has been described as a stain on Canadian History.

Has it been determined if they died of abuse and/or neglect or were murdered? We have to keep in mind that back then, there were high rates of childhood mortality. For instance, in 1800 in the US, childhood mortality was at 43%. That means 4 out of 10 children died.
