On the missing white girl syndrome. Each year, thousands of white women under 18 go missing. Yet. they are not featured in the media like Petito was. Why??? Why didn't their race give them that supposed media privilege? Also, most of the cases that the media has featured have not resulted in finding the person alive. In fact, 99% of the media cases, the person has been found dead. DEAD!!! So the media coverage didn't help them survive. Secondly, if someone is really concerned by the lack of coverage of women of color, why aren't THEY feature missing WOC in their media posts? Joy Reid who speaks her mind so freely for the past couple of years on a media platform has NOT ONCE featured a missing WOC but she fixed her mouth to talk about missing white girl syndrome. There is no conspiracy. Petito made national attention because the FBI got involved. The FBI got involved because she disappeared on National park lands.IP: Logged |

"missing white woman syndrome" is just that curious habit of the media and even general public getting off on stories about kidnapped, raped, tortured and killed white women. You might say they feast on dead white women stories. The more dead white women, the better.similar to "dead black boy syndrome" wherein the media and public salivate at stories of shot black boys BUT with the stipulation that they be killed by *police only* - not other black boys/men! We are now at the end of 2021. in 2021, how many times has the media made a major brouhaha about a missing white woman besides the Petito case? Answer: 0 Year 2020: Same question. Answer: 0 (As far as I remember. If I am wrong, correct me) Year 2019: Same question. Answer: 0 (as far as I can remember. If I am wrong, pls correct me) So unless I missed something and someone can correct me and remind me of the names of the many missing white women who have received media coverage comparable to Petito's case, we have 1 (one) brouhaha case in 3 years, and that constitutes a syndrome???
