^^^ The devil is in the details:Penalties for violations (a misdemeanor) include a fine of up to $100,000 and a jail term of one to 12 months, which requires prosecution by the Department of Justice (DOJ) or the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia. This means a contempt citation may be a purely symbolic gesture if the DOJ or U.S. Attorney decides not to prosecute. Good luck with getting our current DOJ or US AG to prosecute him, even after the House jumps through all the legal hoops to have him formally charged... IP: Logged |

If the DOJ fails to prosecute, then the House can priced to sue under civil contempt. Either way, the optics look very bad for the number one law enforcement official in the US. He should be impeached. But President Trump will fire him and many others on day one.IP: Logged |

I just don't know about having everything hanging on the "Trump will do this and that..." balance. That is putting all eggs in one basket strategy....

With a real Attorney General, there would be real consequences for a valid Contempt of Congress citation. With Meritless Garland at the controls, there are only consequences for republicans. Democrats get a total pass. IP: Logged |
