The national debate over books has come to West Texas. And librarians are stuck in the middle.

West Texas residents are organizing over their love — or concern — for books. Meanwhile, from Lubbock to Midland and Odessa, librarians are trying to reaffirm libraries’ role as community hubs.

All of these things that republicans now find offensive. It’s like they’re looking to be offended. Isn’t that what liberals were told, when you mocked “safe spaces”? Now you want the entire united states to be your own safe space.

It would be great if dealing with the gun problem, that’s getting kids killed in their schools, would be seen as important by these same republicans, so their schools had a much better chance of being a real safe space, for the children they claim to care so much about. Put kids before guns. The gop has made some states less safe, by passing new laws that allow people to carry guns, without a permit. No rules, you can just go out and buy one, and use it. Open carry? Concealed carry? All good.

Guns aren’t the problem. Guns-free policies are, for a start.
