Politicians does need to support businesses because they bring in tax revenues. I am not sure how much of Putin supporting the oligarchs is true. Trump is too part and parcel of the mafia business. But one thing I am sure about is that Putin was a great leader in the past life and he averted a nuclear war.
I agree, we can eliminate all nuclear weapons from this planet -- it is just not needed. Perhaps we need it for space exploration or other tasks. But never to destroy another country. Earth is a globe, one planet. One sun. Man is realizing that his actions creates ripple effects and others are affected. Not many. Many are still in ignorance . Not wanting to realize wolf in sheep's clothing.
The west wants Ukraine to be free to watch over Russia. To isolate Russia and watch over the region. As I mentioned before Putin's plea to join NATO was rejected by the USA.
Putin has disallowed all GMO production in his country. He does work for the masses and gives honor to the sickle in his flag which represents Saturn.
