Journalist travels to Ohio, where more residents corroborate the ‘Haitian cat-eating’ story…Americans find this story impossible to believe. But to call this racist is to misunderstand an important distinction between American and Haitian culture. This is cultural, not racist. Americans view cats as beloved pets. According to one source, Haitians see cats merely as a food source.

We had one incident of a woman eating a cat. She was on drugs or something, and was having a mental health crisis. It happened in Canton. That is the only **** that has been corroborated. And she wasn't Haitian. She's an American citizen.God damn. This is so f*cking gross. So disgusting. YouTuber Tyler Oliveira traveled to Springfield, Ohio to investigate the rumors of Haitians eating ducks, geese, and cats.Tyler, whose YouTube channel has 6.7 million subscribers spent time in Springfield speaking with locals about the Haitian community, and asking them if they know of any Haitians eating dogs or cats. The answers from the citizens were shocking. Numerous locals accused the Haitians of eating the cats. A neo-Nazi group is taking credit for creating and spreading the racist conspiracy that Haitian immigrants are killing and eating pets in Springfield, Ohio.
The leader of the group Blood Tribe, Christopher Pohlhaus, celebrated on his Telegram channel on Wednesday, after the presidential debate between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris the day before where Trump brought up the false rumor. The neo-Nazi group “pushed Springfield into the public consciousness,” Pohlhaus, known as “Hammer” to his followers, wrote on Telegram, according to NBC News. “The president is talking about it now,” one of Blood Tribe’s members wrote on Gab, a social network popular with the far right. “This is what real power looks like.” While the exact origin of the rumor is unclear, it was at least amplified and spread by the neo-Nazi group. In late June, local Facebook groups in Ohio were posting about Haitian children chasing geese and ducks. In the next few weeks, darker rumors spread about the ducks and geese going missing and possibly being eaten by Haitian immigrants. In August, Blood Tribe picked up on the rumors and started posting about them on Telegram and Gab. Members of the racist organization marched in Springfield in Ohio in early August and spoke at some of the town’s meetings. From there, the false story was picked up by the right-wing End Wokeness account on X, which last week posted a screenshot from a Facebook post and a picture of a man holding some kind of bird walking down a street. The picture wasn’t from Springfield, though: It was taken in Columbus, Ohio, on July 28, and the photographer has apologized and admitted he doesn’t know the ethnicity of the man. Still, a post on Reddit made the rumor go viral, with right-wing influencers soon creating A.I.-generated pictures of Trump protecting pets, specifically cats. Politicians from Ted Cruz to vice presidential nominee J.D. Vance picked up on it before Trump mentioned it in Tuesday night’s debate. Now the increased attention is causing problems in the town, leading to threats against town buildings and elementary schools, as well as a condemnation from the mayor. A family’s deceased son has been used as a political tool, much to their outrage. Republican leaders need to face the fact that this false story is not ammunition for their immigration policies but is rooted in racism and needs to stop.

I think this is a huge mistake for the republicans to focus on stories of Haitians eating dogs or cats. Whether the stories are true or not, whether the incidents are very rare or not, it makes republicans look racists and gossipy, and this does not improve the debate on the important question of massive immigration. It’s racist whether it is true or not? How is it any more racist than their bad driving and wrecking cars? Neither is racist. It’s just facts, Is calling out the 10 accidents they cause per day also racist? Insurance rates are through the roof in that city for great drivers! That is very real. There is one video of a woman allegedly eating a cat. I have not seen the video so I cannot speak on that. It could be a mentally ill person...But that seems to be the ONE proof they have to back up the stories, and that is enough to make national and presidential headlines? That is sheer stupidity. Is it really worth it to fuel this hysteria of people eating pets? Why antagonize an electoral bloc with stupid stories? Focus on what matters. There is a HUGE Haitian community in Florida, and if they decide to vote Harris in November, they could shift the balance and Trump could lose Florida because of this nonsense. I disagree. This story is relevant in that it's a story about a clash of cultures and the hardships American citizens are experiencing caused by massive illegal immigration. I mentioned in the thread about eye witness accounts and there are some photos I haven't posted links to that are out there. One resident explained that people here don't go around taking pictures which is why you don't see the proof you would like. quote:

I was just watching a video of a resident of the town talking about this. He says Haitians are given papers that allows them to drive, but they're not required to take a driver's test.

To be clear on my position: I do not know if Haitians in Springfield are eating people's pets or not. I.DO.NOT.KNOW.Pets go missing all the time in any community. It should not be hard to determine if in Springfield Ohio, for a town of this size, there have been significantly more notices of missing pets in the past 4 years than in other same size communities. There should be figures/numbers available for people to check this out, through local various organizations that receive notices of missing pets. Where are those figures? People that are making claims ON EITHER SIDE of the issue should be providing the general public with the verifiable figures to back up their assertion. Videos of people on the street giving their personal accounts and opinions do NOT constitute proof of anything.
