Just saw this and upon reading it thought: What utter rubbish..this isn't true.

The media needs to be more deligent with such articles and get the facts right.

I have muslim family too and it p***** me off when a religion or race is stereotyped because of bad actions from a group who happens to be the same religion/race.

The ones I know are kind, respectable, caring, humble and peaceful human beings.

Venus, the same goes for you.

well it's already been said but the mail is a paper i would not believe unless i had a ton of corroboration alongside. i am sorry venus was treated to reading some of the reactions here, knee jerk is too kind a word really...

but, venus, the mail does this all the time and i have seen equally blatant smears posted on the board about subjects diverse and numerous. it is sad so many are willing to believe any nasty gossip about muslims, but just as sad when it is about the NHS, liberals, and celebrities...

and very very sad that the mail has a wide readership not only in the UK but now around the world with online publication. in fact, now the NOTW is gone, it may be the premier publisher of hate and fear in the UK.

[b]Outrage as Egypt plans 'farewell intercourse law' so husbands can have sex with DEAD wives up to six hours after their death

Egyptian husbands will soon be legally allowed to have sex with their dead wives - for up to six hours after their death.
The controversial new law is part of a raft of measures being introduced by the Islamist-dominated parliament.
It will also see the minimum age of marriage lowered to 14 and the ridding of
women's rights of getting education and employment.

The subject of a husband having sex with his dead wife arose in May 2011 when Moroccan cleric Zamzami Abdul Bari said marriage remains valid even after death.
He also said that women have the right to have sex with her dead husband, alarabiya.net reported.

This is so hard to believe, wouldn't that be considered "defiling a corpse" ?
and how does that fit in with Muslim Beliefs?

sign me
extremely confused
(and totally grossed out)

‎"there have been reports that this law could be false and planted into the media by sources close to former dictator Hosni Mubarak, there has been no formal confirmation as of yet."

well i think the mail is quite capable of blowing something like this up into a bonafide scaremongering horror story without any help from mubarak's people. the motive? shock and awe, in 3 words, get them boiling whatever the cost to the truth.

I’m sorry to jump in on this thread, but I couldn’t believe this article…. (I’m not trying to criticize the poster or anyone who believed it was true, since it was supposed to be a ‘legitimate’ article, but still.)

Venus, I’m sorry you felt singled out

Islam and Christianity share A LOT of similarities, and it’s really unfortunate that so many people are so susceptible to believing things they read in the media or categorizing an entire religion and everyone who is a part of it according to the actions of a number of people singled out to justify political/economic agendas.

The “advanced Western world” has plenty of blood on its hands as well, including Christian missionaries who have used their views on religion and what constitutes being “civilized” as an excuse to condemn other cultures. In fact, stories like this one are created in the media for a reason, seeing the awful way all Muslim men supposedly treat their "weak and victimized" women is used as a justification for war and violence. It's amazing that it's still so easy to convince people of these negative and false representations.

All of the Muslims I’ve met (through school) have been nothing but warm and friendly people....

yes indeed however i was treated yesterday to an audio of brian fischer (an advisor to romney) going on ad nauseam about how NOT ONE MORE MOSQUE should be allowed on american soil, how vile these people are and let's not forget they are the enemy.

but no profiling going on of course.

he said similar things about gay people and their right to work in washington or government anywhere.

if there weren't so many people like this around, a story like this would not sell units even for the daily mail.
