You guys want to hear the medical story? (Well, perhaps not in this thread) I'm putting myself out for you guys to see. I'm tired of being accused of things. IP: Logged |

Padre,I'm not doing this for attention. Mitchell deserves his credit for sure, but this isn't some quest for sympathy. Mitchell has accomplished enough on his own. Least of all, I'm not searching for popularity nor am I competing against any other thread. quote: Mom gave up a kidney for her son?Uhm, YTA..that is a big cup of STFU to me at least
That's what parents do, or are supposed to do. My kidney is next, plus a liver lobe. I'll give up my heart for my son. It's not gallantry. It's just being a parent. IP: Logged |

Sorry for getting to this thread late, it's been an emotionally trying time for me and I knew this was going to make me cry!It did! That's okay, I loved it and will watch it again. I love Mitchell's smile, he's got one of those smiles that I'll bet just light up a whole room. Beautiful person. IP: Logged |

Hera,Any advice for an aspiring health care professional? I already bought him an Organic Chem. textbook as a joke. he already has several physicans that have volunteered to be his mentor in college, in addition to being his healthcare providers. He'll try for a research lab volunteer position. IP: Logged |

Unfortunately the medical education system I (still) function in is very different from the one in US, so I can't really say what would be most beneficial for someone just knocking on the door to a career in medicine. I've researched the subject a bit because I am trying to relocate there and still practice medicine but damn it's hard. I think you two are already doing an amazing job! Volunteer work is a good idea, as any sort of observership programs, from what I have read. He is an amazing kid and has tons of potential. Aside from some guidance and support, I don't think you need to worry too much about him. He's gonna succeed at anything he intends. IP: Logged |

Thank you very much, Hera. Have you signed up for the licensing exam in the state you are going to reside? IP: Logged |

Not yet. I started studying but it is not going so well having a full time job, on calls and a clinical trial going on, as well as an upcoming surgery (on myself this time). It is gonna take me roughly 2 years to take the USMLE exams, after that hopefully I will manage to get into a residency program. Not looking all that good since I am an IMG and I am considered "old" but like Mitchell says, you have to keep trying. And that's what I'm gonna do, too. He's a smart kid. ------------------ Knowflake and newflake birthday database! Join in! This girl is on FIRE LOVE, because what else is worth living for, and dying for?! Faith, I'll extend apologies to you. But isn't about not being gracious. I'm indeed most obliged for the remarks in this thread. I can't associate a thread with a forum, or rather I shouldn't, but recognize that I can't stand the detractors and I'm thoroughly sick of them. If you think I fall short, then I do personally. I can't help the way I feel, and for very good reasons. You aren't the "whole forum" and this thread is not "the forum" but my opinion of the forum in its entirety stands. IP: Logged |

Faith, the fundamental issue here is in YTA's pov, no one else can have as much pride in his son's hard won achievements academically. Other then those in YTA's view, who have achieved them as well, or know them. Arrogance? Overweening pride? Nah, perhaps indulgence of YTA's idiosyncrasies however cannot blame the man. The kid was near death, has his mother's kidney in him, and had the academic deck stacked against him. Some obnoxiousness is called for in this situation A wee bit of a Ric Flair sort of wooo...
