After seeing Violet Evergarden (which I personally recommend in small doses rather than binge watching unless you LIKE feeling gut punched with sadness, though part of its effectiveness is showing the beauty of the human spirit as well) and Akame ga Kill I'm up for something light now. I think I'm going back to watching Xena for awhile, though I need to get my Watch later vids down, too (but many are informational).

When a boy returns home I plan to watch Akame ga Kill with him as I think he'll love it, and I bet I catch a lot more on second viewing. It's a gut punch, but plenty of comedy and just plain fun make it bearable.

Btw, I got to thinking of other cartoon venues. Like does anyone recall the sad, disturbing, and beautiful Watership Down ?

And I've always loved The Last Unicorn but have a new appreciation for it now.

I am a simple man; I see a video by Gigguk and I immediately watch it . He is one of my fav. youtubers.

In regards to Violet Evergarden:

While its true that the series will make you ball your eyes out moreso than that imfamous scene from the Lion King that you watched when you were 5, but bitter sweet nature of each episodic story presented in Violet Evergarden always ends with on a hopeful note, giving you this ambiance of satisfaction where you think to yourself that everything is going to be alright.

And that is why Kyoani is one of my fav. animation studios. Not only do they have a very distinct and absolutely breathtaking style of animation but each of their works is given the love and attention it deserves.

If you still think that you have a reserve stack of Kleenex boxes that you need to go through, might I suggest watching two other shows from Kyoani studios named

Clannad:
http://myanimelist.net/anime/2167/Clannad

and

Clannad Afterstory:
http://myanimelist.net/anime/4181/Clannad__After_Story

And if you are still feel like you haven't had your masochistic fix of bittersweet stories yet, you can top it all off with

You Lie in April:
http://myanimelist.net/anime/23273/Shigatsu_wa_Kimi_no_Uso

and Death Parade:

I just saw Angel Beats.

Like many anime, it seamlessly blends the cute with the macabre, the funny with the tragic, and has more complex characters (once you scratch the surface). It was odd that my heart was breaking for those that essentially were returning to life rather than remaining in some afterlife Limbo. The last 2 episodes really shook me up.

Like some other anime, I could really see Japanese spiritual beliefs in it, though it was a comedy and drama rather than trying to preach (or bending over backwards not to offend the religious zealots). I might post more of a synopsis in Divine Diversities later.

Disney! Watched the B&W Mickey House Club
at my gmas house each Sunday evening . I loved the Tinkerbell part at the end with her wand on the castle.
All those characters in Disney stories, I grew up with many of them. Tinkerbell probably my favorite. I think I married Peter P. lol http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Mickey_Mouse_Club

Disney. Unsurprisingly, my favourite was The Little Mermaid, although the darkness of Beauty and the Beast appealed to me.

Yes! Loved them both.
Amazing you said the B&B one. My one true
unrequited love story was centered around this Scorpio guy. He called me his Belle. Bought me the beast stuffed animal. Wow that was a beautiful chapter in my life.

It occurs to me that The Little Mermaid, which I saw at age 7, added to my love of stories about witches, and later fantasy (which would get me into scifi as well). This would contribute to my joining a fantasy role playing group at 17 in which an anime called The Slayers was popular, and that show got me into that (and also manga). So in a way, Disney contributed to my getting into anime.

Though anime has a lot of western influences and inspiration as well. (Come to think of it, though my memory is hazy on it, I think the Slayers had more western occultism in it than eastern, including references to the Jewish Tree of Life.)

Both, but I ditched Disney and chose Anime instead. I still watch Anime after all these years.

The list is too long and I recommend many of them (Death Note, Bleach, Nodame Cantabile, Naruto Shippuden, Gundam Seed, Gundam Seed Destiny, Clannad and so on). Enjoying Fruits Basket at the moment (s1 2019 and s2 2020, s3 coming around spring probably).
