Its a beautiful state. I love it here and don't plan on ever moving back to where I'm from. I'm not getting personal nor defensive here. I just find it funny at how people try digging at other people here, because of how we feel. It was unnecessary and not called for. The location has nothing to do with it. Iowa is a state that alows gay marriage. So your point was...? To try digging at us. IP: Logged |

I didn't say that either. I know you're trying to set up a religious trap for me to fall into... I see it from all the way over here. There are many different kinds of rights. Be gay... Okay be gay. Get married? Weelllll Aka... They don't need to be discriminated against for employment, etc. My point is... There are many things about this. YOU all are making it so black and white and trying to shove us on one side or the other. I acknowledge that there will always be gay people. I won't out right hate them like you all are trying to say we do or don't. They are more than their sexuality. But do I have to agree that it happens because of this or that? Certainty not. Or say it's right, no. I can say that I feel it's a choice, immoral, unnatural, etc. But at the same time acknowledge that it's a person engaged in unnatural/immoral acts that they chose to do. While not liking what they are doing, but not disliking them. I don't see what's so hard to about understanding that. IP: Logged |

Well, I apologize if I came across that way in my post. This is a subject that is close to my heart. I have had many many gay friends, a transgendered cousin, etc. I see how real discrimination affects them. Not just someone not agreeing with their choices - whatever, you know, who cares? Someone is always going to disagree with your choices no matter who you are.
I remember going back to my hometown in Texas with my ex-husband (when we were still married and I was pregnant) and being terrified we were going to be harassed or worse because we were an interracial couple. I don't want anyone to have to feel that way. IP: Logged |

This is a global issue though. What about them? I don't see it ever happening. Our country is not at united about it at all. A new president every 4 or 8 years isn't going to so it either. Congress and the House are never going to unanimously agree to it. Besides it's a state issue and most states don't agree with it. IP: Logged |

It's just that you're not even contributing anything to the thread, you're just stating over and over how mean everyone is and how uncalled for ppls opinions are. Why are you even participating in the conversation then? And my point was mainly directed at Sibyl and MoonWitch who mentioned location, I was trying to explain that I know personally that MN, IA, WI, etc. are all very "family oriented" states regardless of their "liberal" policies, it's practically part of the Bible Belt... So there's no use arguing with ppl like you and deep freeze who want to come and just clog up the thread and antagonize everyone

What's hard to understand is that you say you don't discriminate while then promoting discrimination and saying you believe in equality and then say not everyone should have the same rights and options if you don't personally agree with them. You clearly don't know "discriminate" and "equality" mean. You can treat someone as equal without discrimination without personally liking them, but if you support their being made second class citizens that are denied the same rights as everyone else (even if in only one or two ways) then you are promoting discrimination and inequality. What's so hard to understand about that? Anyway, I hope I'm done. I'm sure you'll respond with some double speak but I'm going to try to not get sucked in. I was giving you the benefit of a doubt but that benefit is now gone.

The same could have easily been said about Segregation or women's suffrage.

That will change. If you look at history most people don't agree with liberation but it always happens eventually. Did the iron curtain stay put? Were women forever denied the right to vote? The trend is always toward human rights, sometimes it just takes a while. It's because people wish to be free first and foremost. Soon it will be said you cannot discriminate in matters of marriage just like you can't in other areas. Western Europe will lead the way, then the US.

It's not just he and I? Ami Anne started all of this. I agreed with what she said and PixieJane started a fire with it and before I know everyone is disagreeing with me and calling me judgmental. If you were in the same boat about something that you were l passionate about, which clearly you are, you'd understand where I'm coming from. I am so sick of some of you on this forum who constantly criticize my judgment, my logic and insult me. Yes I insult back, but only when it's done to me first. Goodbye I'm done with this thread. I hope it dies just like that Timothy person thread. IP: Logged |

I just don't get why people make such a big deal out this issue. What does it matter who someone wants to marry? It's not like you are going to be marrying them, too. What if it were the other way around with gays telling everyone they can only marry if they are the same sex? I honestly don't get people most the time which is why I choose s IP: Logged |

Okay, I understand and I apologize for the misunderstanding. If I'm to be labeled as such and such then do it. You can look all day for holes in what I'm saying. I have certain things that I believe and if I suck at expressing them, then sorry. I'm not the best communicator. You're much better. (no sarcasm intended) It's like I have a road block sometimes that I have to detour around and people don't get it. (mercury in 12?? Idk) If I'm to be labeled some ignorant, Midwest, backwoods redneck (again not saying you implied that), I'll accept it. My beliefs hold strong. IP: Logged |

I am not trolling that's a serious concern. One day aliens could invade our planet and they could be close enough to humans, we could intermarry. I seriously wonder if some would say it should never be allowed. If some have issues with gays marrying, what would they say about this? IP: Logged |

ABSOLUTELY! I always had a thing for Spock... ETA: I think to get married you should have to answer the following. 1. Are you a consenting adult? 2. Do you want to marry another consenting adult? If so proceed to step three. 3. Get married.

Speaking of that, shouldn't people be more concerned about whether people are actually responsible enough to get married in the first place, not what their orientation or gender is? Look at how many marriages fail. One thing I really disagree with is the mentality that a wedding is nothing more than a day at the spa. IP: Logged |
