Keep laughing, Pixie. Come back to this thread in 6 months!
It's been about 6 months.
And an interesting observation I recently had (and reminded me of this thread after a couple of days pondering it) is that it seems that the people most prone to apocalyptic fears and warning of evil masterminds (such as the Illuminati) are typically (though not always) the same ones that tell me the universe is benevolent and one just needs things like prayer, faith, and positive thoughts for good things to happen to them.
My mind is trying to work this paradox out. Since I'm the one people say is too cynical and the one that doesn't believe in a benevolent universe why isn't it me who is warning of the apocalyptic dangers and evil secret societies running the world (even keeping Earth in a hell dimension) instead of the other way around?
Likewise, I've noticed that people who believe the universe is benevolent tend to be a lot more prone to imagine personal attacks where none were meant. In contrast I recall one thread where I assumed someone was just having a laugh who then apologized for "ranting" at me. I don't know why this is...but I expect I'll have an idea soon.
(ETA: one aspect that has occurred to me so far is that those who believe in a benevolent universe would need a scapegoat for why the world isn't much better than it is and thus come up with secret societies to account for it--not to say I don't believe in secret societies, mind you, including malevolent occult ones, I just don't attribute them with the competence, cooperation, and power others do, and certainly don't need their existence to explain why the world is so messed up--but this is an incomplete explanation at best. If good is so much more powerful then why aren't these evil societies overcome by those of good heart and "higher vibrations"? Why the apocalypses if you can just pray or visualize it away and there are godlike beings who are powerful beyond our understanding and who take a personal and protective interest in us as if we were their children? And why imagine the personal attacks when unintended unless one is REALLY BAD about staying positive? )
