Sorry this is random, I'm trying to steer away from controversial topics and I know there are other threads on this but please feel free to share any ghost/paranormal (whatever they happen to be) experiences you've encountered..No judgments, I've had a few and have actually stopped second-guessing or fearing the paranormal.. I'll share mine but want to hear other stories as well IP: Logged |

One time me and my friend were sitting on my couch watching a movie and all of a sudden we heard a loud banging on the back door and the knob was turning like someone was desperately trying to get in. I flung the door open while this was still going on and nobody was there.IP: Logged |

A simple one I don't mind sharing is an abandoned hotel me and runaways (along with adult homeless) slept in. I'm not sure what drew me and the other kids to the room, though in part it was because it was available, the others stayed far away from it. Other kids chose it and I went along with it figuring one room was as good as another. That night me and a couple of others were plagued of haunting dreams of murder, terror, and an immaterial girl who cried for help but when I tried to grab her hands (and she tried to grab mine) her hands went through mine like a ghost. After that those of us who had the dreams didn't want to be in that room anymore, and even some of the others felt creeped out. A guy did research at the library and found out shortly before the hotel shut down that a serial killer had killed someone in that room. The room had to be shut down due to both blood stains and infamy and contributing to the entire hotel being closed. My personal GUESS is that it wasn't so much ghosts as "imprints," that is the darkest and most passionate emotions got seared into the astral plane there. None of us sensed any intelligence in the one who haunted our dreams, it was more just raw terror and desperate pleading. IP: Logged |

My work seems to be haunted. People who work at night especially when they are alone, hear voices talking. Some believe its ghosts, others assume it comes from outside. Several people have thought they saw someone standing at the top of the stairs so that it made them double take. I currently work in the basement and I often feel like someone is peering around the corner at me, I see a shadow in my peripheral and look up but its no one. But I never feel the need to look up when people actually come down cause I know its a real person. Just recently the cooler light shut itself off, I was the only one down there all morning, one other person went in the cooler but he always walks out of it really fast and I would have seen if he lifted his arm up to turn the light off. Once I thought someone was standing beside me and looked over at a spot where there wouldn't be enough space for someone to stand/get around me but something in me made me look anyway. When my ex did some work there last Christmas when he left (was alone) he felt like someone grabbed him from behind around the throat and got cold/goosebumps all over and scared out of his pants and ran out as fast as he could. A night baker saw a baguette fly off the rack without any assistance or reason or way to fall off, same with a fan on a table once. A coworker who doesn't want to believe in ghosts or anything supernatural at all has a ghost that lives in her complex. The lights in all the complexes turn themselves on, including for people who live alone, the heat also turns itself up. She recently bought a desk and said she had propped a large mirror on it against the wall in such a fashion that it was very sturdy, there was a lamp on the side table next to the new desk. In the middle of the night she heard a large crash and assumed it was something else. In the morning the mirror was face down on the floor (not broken) and the lamp that was on the side table was on the desk. Her son randomly talks about past life memories of "when he was a carpenter in the past" etc etc so I guess something in the universe wants her to believe. Another coworker who does believe in supernatural/spiritual things has had many ghostly things happen to him. Once he woke up in the night and visually watched the blankets being pulled off of him and onto the floor from the foot of the bed. Other people in the same house had the same or other experiences. Recently he was house sitting for someone and it was just him and his young daughter. In the morning he noticed a candle burning in the bathroom. Very little wax had been melted, there were no matches or lighters around, he did not have one on him either. He asked his daughter even though she wouldn't have these items if she had lit it and she said no. He says she is very honest and would have no reason to lie about this nor to have matches or a lighter. She joked that maybe the rising sun had lit it. An aunt when she was younger was looking to rent a room from some people. When she did end up renting the room and was setting up her stuff, the lady of the house gasped when she saw a portrait of my aunt's father who died when they were young. The lady said that she had woken up in the night before my aunt moved in and had seen that man looking around her room. She remembered that he gave her a comfortable feeling like he was just checking things out and she drifted off back to sleep and had forgotten the event until she saw the photo of him. Another aunt works for hospice, she said that she woke up choking one night when she had a bad case of whooping cough and couldn't breathe and was beginning to get light headed and almost thought she was going to die. She said that she saw figures of all the people she had helped die standing around her bed almost welcoming her to the "other side," smiling kindly, as if they were waiting for her to join them. As she managed to get her throat clear she said they melted away into the floor and the room became clear again. At my old place my ex and I would both often see a small shadow in the peripheral of our visions, running by, it always made us look. We have/had two cats and we always thought it was just one of them so would turn to look but nothing. We used to call it the ghost kitty. The landlord of the property said many cats had come to that property to die over the years. Also I personally had a cat that passed away there and was buried in the back. Could probably tell more but that's enough for now. Apparently I live in the statistically most haunted city of Canada. IP: Logged |

Ooo thanks for the stories, people! quote: She joked that maybe the rising sun had lit it.
^ LOL --- @AG ~ Something similar happened to me once, only it was a door inside the house. It sounded like someone was dragging their fingernails down the door and then vigorously rattling the locked doorknob...this coming from a room that was temporarily abandoned after my grandmother had died there. --- I've said the same thing at LL many times, but for the sake of thoroughness and for people who haven't read my posts before... Basically ever since my mother died at age 14, I've had to believe in spirits lingering after death, because her presence felt obvious. We had a Touch-Me lamp with four levels of brightness. This only started happening after she died: I would be in the room alone, and the lamp would get brighter and brighter, shut off, turn on again, get brighter again. There were also footsteps...which did frighten me a bit, but I told myself it was my mother. Then I went to college in Gettysburg. This is a seriously haunted place that made me miserable because, like Pixie was saying, there was a "violent" imprint on the whole area. And on top of that, many of my friends had ghost stories to tell...not just flickering lights or falling objects but seeing people in Civil-War era dress in the dorm bathrooms in the middle of the night...things like that. It got to be overwhelming, and I was afraid of experiencing any of this first-hand, or being silly and believing every little thing I heard, so I just swore to myself that "I don't really believe in ghosts. Until I meet one face to face, I don't fully, truly believe in them." (I meant visual and audible apparitions and poltergeists, not just dead people affecting energy.) Continued in the next post... My boyfriend's apartment in Gettysburg was supposedly haunted. We were friends with the guys who had leased it the year before; their stories were pretty dramatic and circulated amongst our group of friends. For example, one of the guys had been lying on the floor awake, and a ghost (supposedly ) began stomping on either side of his head.I practically lived there and noticed nothing of the sort -- maybe because I was adamantly blocking it out. I didn't believe in ghosts. So... It was weird for me when, one night after we had had a party there...and it was 4 am and I was slightly inebriated, I was sitting on the floor in the living room, looking into the dark kitchen...and a face popped into the kitchen from the adjoining hallway. It was like a dimly glowing blob, with a bonnet. This lasted long enough that I could register "I am looking at a ghost and it's definitely there." Then the ghost stepped into the kitchen and quickly moved across the doorway. She was wearing a dress with a very full skirt...Civil War era. That's the only ghost I ever saw, and maybe I was just drunk. I have other stories but don't want to write forever. Now that I have established my long habit of skepticism, and hopefully shown you how rigorous I am about dismissing "paranormal" activity as something else, I will have to come back later and tell you about recent events, which have left me staying awake all night terrified on more than one occasion. Because I couldn't figure out what on earth was happening, if it wasn't a spirit trying to scare the sh*t out of me. (Therefore, I don't think it's the spirit of a departed loved one.)

This is not a ghost story, per se, but a really scary true story.I was a freshmen in college. I was in a dorm with a room on the second floor. It was 1:30 at night and I just went to the bathroom down the hall and back to my room. I locked my door from the inside. Fifteen minutes later, I heard a sound of someone trying every doorknob in the hall as he went down the hall. He was outside of my room trying the door knob and he moved all the way down the hallway. There was no phone in the room and I had no cell phone.

Yay thanks for the stories I'm at a friends cabin for a few days but the other girl went home early and I'm left here alone with nothing but my phone for entertainment while the guys go hunting (and actually keep hearing weird noises which I'm sure is nothing but still made me think of this lol) @aquaguy, creepy! I've actually had a similar experience which I've probably already talked about but my roommate and I were sitting downstairs and heard this woman knocking on the deck door above us and like almost pleading to be let in (she was speaking a different language tho) but when we went upstairs to check there was no one thee and the other roommate apparently didn't hear anything. @Pixie, wow that's intense! I do agree tragic events/deaths can leave "imprints" or residual energy that can linger and accumulate but doesn't necessarily have a consciousness. @deapseablues, thanks for sharing your stories! I guess it might be less scary if it's happening somewhere you work and there's always other people around, but still creepy.. Also that's funny about the ghost cat, maybe there really was a cat there at some point that was killed or died and doesn't want to leave yet lol. Feel free to share more if you want! @Faith, very interesting about Gettysburg.. I live somewhat near Fort Snelling and apparently a few vacant buildings once used basically as a prison/death camp for Native Americans are now being converted into apartments... Umm maybe not the best idea lol. I've never visually seen an apparition so I used to be really dismissive of these things too until the ongoing incidents with the spirit I mentioned that was knocking.. Anyway, thanks for your input and yes please do share your recent events! I think I've seen you mention it and I actually know the feeling of staying awake out of fear/terror too (different location and a couple years earlier- my bed and mirror would literally shake with no logical explanation) which felt totally different than encountering a more "human" entity with a discernible personality.. eta, also thanks for sharing about your mom I haven't had any deaths of close relatives yet but I definitely believe that's possible too. @Ami, that would be really scary!! So what happened? Did he get caught? IP: Logged |

I also lived in a haunted house. Me, my mom, and brother moved into it when my mom and dad split up. I only saw an apparition once the whole time I lived there but I was constantly hearing noises and there was a constant feeling of being watched. It was a really creepy house. My brother says he still has weird dreams about that place. LolIP: Logged |

@FireMoonAlone in a cabin talking about ghost stories? You're brave! Looking forward to hearing more though I'm creeped out about you and your roommate hearing a woman pleading to be let in. It's worse when there are two people and you can verify it for each other...'harder to dismiss. Also I don't appreciate ghosts targeting the doors. ^ Looking forward to it! I've already written about these experiences but will repeat this first incident and add more detail for those of you who didn't catch it the first time Here goes: One day this past summer, I had been looking into the charts and histories of two serial killers, and it really messed with my head. The transiting moon was in Pisces and I just felt like the veils were too thin and I was sensing too much. I took my children to a shopping center, and as I was walking across the parking lot, I was thinking, "I am too psychically open. TOO OPEN." Which is something I never thought before. There was a news helicopter hovering overhead, and I assumed that someone had died in an accident. Later that day we passed the same shopping center on the way to the playground and there were news vans and a reporter doing a broadcast. I made a mental note to check the internet for the story when I got home, but I forgot to. That night I woke up around 3 am. I heard my husband breathing on the bed next to me, reached over to him and my arm just landed on the blankets. I was still groggy and didn't panic at first...just listened to the breathing. It finally clicked that my husband was away sailing and yet...someone was definitely breathing in my room, but I was alone in my room. I went through a list of all the possible explanations...like maybe my son had crawled under my bed, or my cat...but I had very deliberately shut myself into this empty room that night (as my cat sometimes pounces on my head and eats my hair.) Then the breathing suddenly stopped and stayed quiet for a long while...too long for someone to just be holding their breath...and came back full force again. It was a wheezing, loud kind of breathing. I was completely flooded with adrenaline, wide awake and terrified. In my mind I was just screaming, "Go away! Go AWAY!" And finally, it did. I heard a whistle out in the hallway, and then all the noise was gone. I stayed awake until the sun came up and then fell asleep. In my sleep, I dreamed that my upstairs bathroom had stalls in it like a public restroom. My sons came to me in the hallway and told me that "The Breather" was in the bathroom. So I went in (dream logic doesn't always match what we'd do in real life) opened the stall and found this man fully clothed on the toilet seat, looking ashen-faced, sweaty and completely ill. So I called for an ambulance and they took him away. When I woke up that morning, I was still freaking out about the breathing from the night before, so I was telling some people about it (posted at LL, too) and then decided to research the accident that had happened the day before at the shopping center. I don't know why this freaked me out so much...I don't know why I wasn't expecting it...but as it turns out, a man had gotten killed in that parking lot shortly before I arrived. A truck had rammed him into a wall. He was a county commissioner, that's why the story got so much attention. And of course, his picture was featured, and I broke into a cold sweat at the sight of his face, because he was the man I had dreamed about, in my bathroom. I honestly think that his newly-dead spirit saw me on that parking lot, sensed that I was "too open" and followed me home. The next night, I camped out with all my children, in the boys' bedroom. I was "sleeping" on the floor, actually wide awake and nervous about every sound. I felt like this spirit was stalking me. At one point, it felt like someone was stomping on either side of my body...the floor would creak right next to me on one side, then the other (just like my friend in Gettysburg had said.) I moved over right next to my daughter and that seemed to get whatever it was to back off, though it was a gamble, since I didn't want her to know what was going on or sense anything. It all sounds crazy when I type it, almost like a non-event, but I am very careful about what I will acknowledge and what I won't, and this was one of the freakiest things that ever happened to me. When my husband got home, and I had told him the story, he was listening for anything that might sound like breathing...and decided that crickets going into chorus sound like that, as the noise bounces off the corner wall in my room. Maybe?? But that doesn't explain the whistle, the dream, and the invisible pounding on the floor around me. IP: Logged |

Yeah.. it also knew how to make a human snapping sound (like someone snapping their fingers) and we would both hear it coming from various places in the house. I think it actually had some sort of playful connection with the roommate's dog and the snapping would get the dogs attention too. It was a complicated situation but the roommate actually ended up giving the dog away to new owners, and as this was happening outside I was downstairs in the hallway and the snapping happened again really loud and literally right next to my ear. Anyway, sorry I haven't had time to write more in depth responses but promise I'll get back to this thread soon. Thanks again and keep the stories coming if there's more to share IP: Logged |

Approaching my 12th b-day in October I was playing by myself in the woods again when I noticed it was getting darker. But instead of going home I dug a fire pit and tried to start a fire (but all the wood was too wet). As I was about to give up I heard a man whistling and froze in fear. I then noticed that it was definitely twilight, a few of the street lights were coming on, and someone was walking the street, and I felt utter terror. I dropped what I was doing and hid. Given that I was in the darkening woods, street lamps should blind anyone on the street trying to look to where I was and all that I should've been safe and yet I had this overwhelming feeling to "shut my eyes until he passes." I thought that was silly and just HAD to see who it was.I saw a long, tall whistling man walk by but there was something wrong with how he walked, and I just couldn't see his face, and I felt if I did I'd understand something though also that understanding might destroy me (looking the gorgon in the face?). He stopped whistling and looked into the gloomy woods and somehow I knew I couldn't let his eyes land on me and took off running. I heard him crashing through the woods moments after. My terror was so total that the memory is a blur but I came out on a dead end street with new houses for sale. I briefly thought of going to one house where someone obviously lived or to the next street but knew the man would find me if I did and I wouldn't escape so instead I went to the 2-story garage that I found myself by. After finding the door locked I tried the car door which came up about a foot and I barely squeezed inside and ran up the stairs that were present. I was still freaked as I heard the man come out of the woods and tried to calm my racing breath so he couldn't hear me as he tried the locked door and then lifted the car door and struggled to crawl in. He grunted a few times but he never said anything, not even profanity. By now it was night and he shown a flashlight around (this is the one part that makes me wonder if he could have been supernatural, what would such an entity be doing with a flashlight, especially one that could see me hiding in the dim shadows?), both from under the car door and also outside up into the 2nd story windows. After awhile he started whistling again as he walked away, and I experienced a brief urge to try to get another look at him but resisted, which was good as the flashlight beam touched the window again more than once. I don't know how long I waited in that dark garage crying, but it was a long while before I felt brave enough to sneak outside and creep silently home. Once I was close enough I broke into a run and ran inside sobbing. My 'rents (who were drunk) weren't that concerned and Dad said it was a Halloween (about 2 weeks away) prank and if I hadn't run then he wouldn't have chased me. That night I had horrible nightmares of vampires after me, especially a master vampire who could dominate and control all other vampires he created (including my parents) and he was determined to get me (I could fly just out of reach, but that only helped a little). I felt as if some malevolent intelligence was possessing all the vampire bodies, more like the evil dead in which one demon killed people and then added their corpses to its vampire army with no significant individuality between them at all (though it could access memories within the brain). And then I thought I woke up to the man outside the garage trying to open my bedroom door. I knew there was no lock so I ran to hold the knob and had to fight to keep him out and I woke up shrieking. And I had that nightmare repeatedly (and would from time to time well into my 20s). But here's where it gets really weird: For the next few weeks I was surrounded by poltergeist effects. Dishes slid across the counter without being touched to fall without breaking (though they should've, and I think I recall them feeling warm when I picked them up as it startled me), a small globe on top of the fridge threw itself across the kitchen, the phone would ring weakly with no one there, and once at school my binder slid by itself and as I feared my papers would get loose when it crashed I heard the rings click open before it fell and the papers flew all over the classroom. The teacher herself looked puzzled, the boy next to me was staring wide-eyed, and it became clear they'd really rather not know. And electricity acted weird so that as I'd walk school hallways the lights above me would flicker, and I also found that touching a compass made the needle move around weird. I showed my science teacher asking why it did that and she said in a very queasy voice that she didn't know and I knew she didn't want to talk about it and she never mentioned it again. Meanwhile I continued to have nightmares of being hunted by vampires. This all (at least the poltergeist effects) faded away in late November, early December. An expert in poltergeists told me that it was common for young girls afflicted with this to experience being attacked first, and it was usually by something supernatural, or at least a man from a nightmare who was never seen before or ever again. As I had a chaotic home life and wrote a lot of fairy tales with bogeyman in them he believes that my psi-generated poltergeist effects manifested a bogeyman and thus he wasn't real...or at least not in the conventional sense. Girls caught by these bogeymen are often beaten and sexually assaulted, though none are known to have died. He looked real uncomfortable when I asked, "If any are killed by these psi-generated bogeymen, then how would we know?" I'm not sure what to think. I've researched poltergeists and know he was right, the lore does often include an attack just before such effects happen, but what was he? And was he the trigger or was he triggered by my burst of PK? Was he a real person, a spirit that took form through my temporary PK wild talent (or perhaps my then PK abilities absorbed by my psychic connection with it), or just one of my nightmares given quasi-reality by the same force that made lights flicker and globes fly across the room? Forgot to add that after I'd been away for several months I moved back in with Mom (by then I had a new bedroom as my old one had been converted for Mom's use). As soon as I walked in there was a loud thump or something in my old bedroom which freaked Mom out (she thought Dad was breaking in). As for me I felt as if something left of that Whistling Man was reminding me it was still around. How I hated moving back in, but at least I didn't have to sleep in that room. When I dream of being back in that room it often gets bad. I did some research at a local library and learned that 2 towns had existed on that spot that mysteriously disappeared. The second one was in the early 20th century and they even had a general store and post office, but at some point people noticed everyone was gone with no idea where they went (though they had apparently packed up and left rather than vanished). Given all the weird things I encountered there growing up I wonder if the high weirdness was even stronger before the pavement and power lines were set up and if it scared people away. And as I said I had an impression as a child that cutting down the woods for more housing developments was "setting something loose." IP: Logged |

I often have psychic dreams. So if it was just the dream matching the face, I wouldn't have freaked out. It was the very palpable feeling that that guy was in my house now...with the vibe off the picture matching the sense I got of him (something jaded and bitter in his facial expression.) quote: Originally posted by FireMoon: Honestly I think people can always come up with a "logical" explanation for these things, but sometimes those theories are actually more illogical than whatever they're trying to disprove lol
I know, right? Once when my oldest son was little, my husband took him to the dentist or something, and I was alone in the house. The noises in the attic had always made me wonder if it was haunted, but I was used to it, thinking it was the spirits of my parents-in-law who had built and owned that house before they passed away. But this day the noises were so extreme that I had to assume someone had broken in and was stomping around upstairs thinking no one was home. So I actually called 9-11 and told them there was someone in my attic. Honestly it didn't even cross my mind that it was a poltergeist, it was too loud for that (or so I thought.) The cops came and investigated and concluded that it had just been squirrels. Since when do squirrels move heavy furniture and stomp like they are wearing work boots? But what could I say? LOL I was just like "Oh, thank you, Officer. Musta been squirrels. Shoulda known." And there's always been a lot of "friendly ghost" activity in that house: kids' toys starting up in the middle of the night, one remote control car that ran around on its own when no one was anywhere near the controller...and we used to have a motion-detecting alarm system until there were too many false alarms from something inside the empty house moving around, and we had to pay a fine each time it activated. quote: Originally posted by FireMoon: Yeah.. it also knew how to make a human snapping sound (like someone snapping their fingers)
My hair just stands on end about that. I don't know why this feels sinister to me. Maybe because I wouldn't like someone doing that in my face in real life...it'd be crazy.

@Pixie That whistling man scares the cr*p out of me as I've told you before. I had nightmares of a similar entity when I was young. quote: Originally posted by PixieJane: For the next few weeks I was surrounded by poltergeist effects.
Now..that was the issue with me, too. After the Breather visited me, I had poltergeist activity. Specifically, some nights it sounded like someone was repeatedly opening and slamming shut the cabinet doors and drawers in my kitchen. And once when it was just me and my son home, this started happening...it was daylight and I had enough courage to go into the kitchen (which I won't do at night) and the noises stopped as I approached, but one drawer was all the way out, and I know I hadn't left it like that. (Btw poltergeists seem to love kitchens for all the noise that can be made there...YouTube is loaded with poltergeist-in-the-kitchen videos.) He and I also heard a demonic sounding voice hissing in a foreign or alien language on our stairs one day...he witnesses a lot of stuff, more than anyone else in the family...which makes me think that he and I are the main targets of this activity. Just the other day he said he was alone on the computer when someone sighed loudly right by his ear, and even our cat sprang up from the desk and looked alert at the side of his face where it happened. quote: Originally posted by PixieJane: ...and once at school my binder slid by itself and as I feared my papers would get loose when it crashed I heard the rings click open before it fell and the papers flew all over the classroom. Strange how it all seems to go together. I don't really understand it...almost like we get put on a bridge between here and the spirit world and are more electrical then?? quote: Originally posted by PixieJane: Was he a real person, a spirit that took form through my temporary PK wild talent (or perhaps my then PK abilities absorbed by my psychic connection with it), or just one of my nightmares given quasi-reality by the same force that made lights flicker and globes fly across the room?
Good questions... :/ IP: Logged |

PixieJane, I have never been scared from a ghost story in my life and that story scared the hell out me! What exactly do you mean something wrong with the way he walked? IP: Logged |

The Whistling Man walked as if...sort of like a puppet (it's scaring me trying to remember the details). My impression was that something was "wearing" that human and using it like a shoe. Possessed by a spirit not used to a human body? Glamor not quite right? I couldn't say. Perhaps I should mention that I was raised by violent alcoholics so I'd learn to tune into subtle clues (more so than most children) so maybe I was just as sensitive (subconsciously) to how someone walks and someone else may have missed it entirely.

I read about the whistling man, in 2015. I was sitting on the floor, with my dog Walter (who I had to keep off the furniture, because of his legs not working so well, so I was sleeping on the floor with him). I was reading a very long thread about spooky stories - true ones, supposedly - that had been going on for a few years, and I'd just found it. I used to go for walks in the middle of the night, until I read that story. It sent chills through me. I've had spooky things happen before, and my sister experienced a few things, too. I'm too tired to think about them tonight. Now I wonder if I read Pixie's post around the same time, or if she shared it on another board, too, because it sounds just like one of the posts that I read at the time. IP: Logged | |
